The woman in the above story is Ms. Bui Thi Loi (born 1948), residing in Loc Ninh commune, Dong Hoi city, Quang Binh province. Ms. Loi is volunteering to take care of the local martyrs' cemetery.
She used to participate in youth volunteers and perform emergency duty for soldiers. In 1963, when she and her teammates went up the mountain to treat injured soldiers, Ms. Loi was unfortunately struck by lightning and lost consciousness.
With the support of her teammates, Ms. Loi regained consciousness. However, after the incident, Ms. Loi did not feel hungry and did not want to eat anything. Afraid of affecting her health, her teammates mixed sugar water for Ms. Loi to drink.
Many years later, Ms. Loi's eating became erratic because she was not hungry, nor did she want to eat. This woman mainly ate fruit. From 1970 until now, she has eaten almost nothing, only drinking water.
According to Ms. Loi, since being struck by lightning, it seems like she hasn't eaten anything, doesn't feel hungry, and feels nauseous when she smells food. She doesn't know why. It's been more than 50 years now. Not eating, when she gave birth to her five children, she had no milk and had to ask others for milk. Every day, she still cooks for her children, but she herself does not eat. Now that her children work far away, she no longer cooks.
Curious about Ms. Loi's story, many people went to this woman's house to find out. Since the children went away to work, the cooking area at Mrs. Loi's house was covered in dust, the gas stove was covered and unused, and the refrigerator was filled with mineral water and soft drinks and no food of any kind.
Ms. Loi also said that her life depends on an allowance of about 1,3 million VND/month, mainly used to buy water, and the rest for charity. Even though she only drank water and did not eat for decades, Ms. Loi affirmed that she was in good health and had no illnesses.
Regarding the story about the woman who did not eat and only drank water, Mr. Tran Van Thanh, Vice Chairman of Loc Ninh Commune People's Committee, said that it cannot be confirmed whether Ms. Loi ate or drank or not. The story just stops at people's rumors and no one has verified it.
During visits by local government representatives, they also found that Ms. Loi's house was filled with water bottles and the stove appeared to be unused.
Also according to Mr. Thanh, Ms. Loi was very welcomed by the locality when she voluntarily took care of the martyrs' cemetery in Loc Ninh commune.
According to doctors from the Department of Nutrition, Vietnam - Cuba Friendship Hospital Dong Hoi, stories have repeatedly spread on social networks about people who haven't eaten for decades and still live healthy lives. This is very difficult to verify. or clarify the cause.
Regarding the information that Ms. Loi only drinks water, including soft drinks, but does not eat, doctors said that in fact, there is sugar in soft drinks, which is a source of energy for the human body. When entering the body, sugar in soft drinks will be converted into glucose, a natural sugar found in human blood to provide energy for the body to function.
Drinking sugary soft drinks helps replenish the body's energy quickly in necessary situations. Besides, sugary soft drinks also help increase resistance and support the functioning of the body's digestive system.
However, drinking too much soft drink is potentially dangerous for human health, can lead to problems such as obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure, cardiovascular diseases...
Doctors warn that Ms. Loi's story is rare and unverified, so people should not experiment or follow it, it will affect their health.
