30th Anniversary of Thac Mo Hydropower Plant Power Generation

Thac Mo Hydropower Plant started construction on November 20, 1991. The plant has 2 generators with a total capacity of 150MW, output of 610 million kWh/year. Despite many difficulties, thanks to the timely support of the Government , the Ministry of Energy (former), the leaders of Song Be province at that time with unprecedented mechanisms, and the continuous efforts of the collective leadership and workers, on January 6, 1995, unit 1 of the plant officially connected to the national grid and on April 30, 1995, unit 2 also brought energy to the national system.

Two units with a total capacity of 150MW connected to the national grid when the 500kV line 1 circuit operated stably contributed significantly to basically solving the power shortage in the South.
During the 30-year journey of construction and development, Thac Mo Hydropower Plant has gone through important milestones. On June 11, 1994, Thac Mo Hydropower Plant was established by the Ministry of Energy, as a unit under Electricity Company 2, with the main task of managing and operating the Thac Mo Hydropower Plant. On March 4, 1995, the plant became a dependent accounting member unit of Vietnam Electricity Corporation. After nearly 11 years of establishment, on March 30, 2005, Thac Mo Hydropower Plant was transformed into Thac Mo Hydropower Company, an independent accounting member of Vietnam Electricity Corporation, now Vietnam Electricity Group - EVN. As part of the restructuring and equitization roadmap of the electricity industry to improve operational efficiency and promote development, on January 1, 2008, Thac Mo Hydropower Company officially transformed into Thac Mo Hydropower Joint Stock Company, with a charter capital of 700 billion VND, of which EVN holds 51.92%. |
In addition to technical innovation and improving production and business efficiency, the company has also continuously expanded its business scale through investment in enterprises. In July 2017, the company operated the Thac Mo Hydropower Plant expansion, increasing the plant's capacity from 150MW to 225MW, adding 52 million kWh to the national power system each year.
In the trend of developing renewable energy and to make the most of available resources, the company has decided to invest in building the Thac Mo Solar Power Plant with a capacity of 50MWp in Phuoc Long town and Bu Gia Map district, contributing to increasing the electricity output for Thac Mo by more than 71 million kWh per year.
Over the past 30 years, the company has produced more than 22 billion kWh, thanks to which the electrification program in Binh Phuoc has been strongly promoted, contributing to the rapid development of the province's socio -economy.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Tran Phu Thai, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Power Generation Corporation 2, highly appreciated the results that Thac Mo Hydropower Plant has achieved over the past 30 years. At the same time, he requested the company to strengthen the dissemination and implementation of measures to prevent waste and negativity; research and arrange the organizational structure in a streamlined manner, ensuring effective and efficient operations; focus on expanding production and business activities, exploiting the existing potential to the fullest and promoting investment in new projects in the field of renewable energy, striving to double the existing capacity by 2030 in accordance with the direction of the corporation; utilize financial resources to increase value and expand the investment portfolio.
Chairman of the Board of Directors of Power Generation Corporation 2 Tran Phu Thai believes that with the tradition of loving work, solidarity, and innovation of the leadership and employees of Thac Mo Hydropower Joint Stock Company, the unit will firmly overcome challenges in the new situation, continuing to write history on the journey of "joining hands to light up".
At the ceremony, collectives and individuals who have made many contributions to the company's development were awarded certificates of merit by the People's Committee of Binh Phuoc province, the State Capital Management Committee at enterprises, and Vietnam Electricity Group.
