Following the official implementation of the two-tiered local government model in communes, wards, and special zones, the education sector has been assigned to the Department of Culture and Social Affairs . Although it has only been in operation for more than half a month, localities have quickly adapted and implemented tasks to prepare for the new school year.
In Thong Nhat commune, which has 10 schools from preschool to high school (including 9 schools under the commune's management), preparations for the 2025-2026 school year have been and are being implemented seriously and systematically.
The commune leaders proactively organized working sessions with the principals of schools in the area to understand the situation, listen to opinions, and direct the development of plans for preparing for the new school year that are appropriate to the actual conditions at each educational institution. Issues such as facilities, teaching staff, student enrollment, school hygiene, and ensuring student safety were all given attention and emphasis.
Ms. Dinh Thi Huong Thom, Principal of Thong Nhat Primary and Secondary School (Thong Nhat commune), said: "In the 2025-2026 school year, the school will have over 1,400 students. Preparations for the new school year have been and are being seriously implemented by the school. The school's facilities for teaching are basically adequate. In August, we will continue to strengthen school cleaning efforts to welcome students back to school."
In preparation for the new school year, many schools have received additional investment and reinforcement, focusing on solid construction, standardization, and modernization, with an emphasis on eliminating dilapidated classrooms, temporary classrooms, and borrowed classrooms. The percentage of educational institutions meeting national standards as of the end of May 2025 reached 91.88%, with Level 1 accounting for 66.56% and Level 2 accounting for 25.32%.
Notably, the project to rebuild Trong Diem Secondary School (Ha Long ward) covers an area of over 1.5 hectares, with 45 classrooms and a total investment of 160 billion VND, meeting the educational needs of 2,000 students. Many new facilities have been constructed, such as a 5-story administrative building, two 4-story classroom buildings, and a multi-purpose hall.
To expedite the project, the construction unit has increased the mobilization of manpower and resources, working continuously at the construction site to ensure that all items are completed before the start of the new school year. The dream of a spacious, modern, and well-equipped school is now gradually becoming a reality for the teachers and students of the school.
Bui Mai Ngoc, a student at Trong Diem Secondary School, shared: "I am very excited to be studying in the new, beautiful, and spacious school, and I will try my best to study well and achieve high results."
Over the past period, the Department of Education and Training has actively advised the Provincial People's Committee on the procurement of minimum teaching equipment according to the 2018 General Education Program for all levels of education. Along with that, it has strengthened the direction of developing and approving digital learning materials, contributing video lectures to the Ministry of Education and Training's digital learning resource repository. It has also directed educational institutions to strengthen the organization of training for teachers on skills in designing digital learning materials, utilizing shared digital learning materials, and using LMS/LCMS systems.
The entire sector also provided information on the list of textbooks for the 2025-2026 school year; compiled needs and reported the projected number of textbooks to be supplied for the 2025-2026 school year so that publishers can prepare and promptly supply quality textbooks, absolutely preventing any delays or shortages of textbooks before the start of the new school year.
In addition, the plan includes providing textbook support to students from poor and near-poor households, students from disadvantaged backgrounds, students from remote and mountainous areas, and ethnic minority students in the province.
The positive and urgent spirit is evident in every stage of preparation, reflecting the expectation of an effective, safe, and high-quality new school year, leaving many proud marks and achievements for Quang Ninh's education.
