The Provincial Journalists Association always prioritizes membership development and building a strong organization. Currently, the Provincial Journalists Association has 158 members, organized into three branches: the Press and Radio & Television Branch; the Office Branch; and the Suoi Reo Magazine Branch. The Association also includes 22 members who are reporters from central media agencies based in the province, participating in two-way activities with their respective agencies and the Provincial Journalists Association.
Journalist Nguyen Thanh Hai, Deputy Director of Son La Newspaper and Radio and Television, and Vice President of the Provincial Journalists Association, said: The Provincial Journalists Association always focuses on innovation and improving the quality of its activities in a practical way, putting members at the center of its tasks, worthy of being a political , social, and professional organization, a "common home" for the team of journalists.
The work of political and ideological education for cadres and members is emphasized. The Standing Committee of the Association regularly directs the secretaries of the branches to thoroughly implement the directives and guidelines from the Central and provincial authorities to cadres and members. The implementation of the 10 Articles of the Code of Professional Ethics for Vietnamese Journalists and the Code of Conduct for the Use of Social Media by Vietnamese Journalists are linked to the movement "Promoting the study and emulation of Ho Chi Minh's thought, morality, and style." The movement to build a cultural environment in media agencies and a culture of journalism has spread widely, helping each journalist to consciously enhance their social responsibility and civic duty.
In the ever-changing flow of the digital age, the Provincial Journalists Association Executive Committee and the secretariats of the branches have made many innovations in training and professional development. The Standing Committee of the Association, in coordination with the Center for Journalism Professional Training - Vietnam Journalists Association, organizes professional training courses for officials and members based on the needs of various units and the trends of modern journalism and digital transformation. The secretariats of the branches also actively "keep the flame" of the profession alive through in-depth training sessions and thematic discussions, helping members improve their skills, promoting professional exchange and sharing, and strengthening bonds among journalists.
Equipped with a foundation of knowledge and political acumen through professional training courses, the Provincial Journalists Association fosters a spirit of creative competition among its members through vibrant emulation movements and journalism competitions from the central to local levels; accompanying members on their journey in the field of journalism. Simultaneously, it protects the legitimate rights and interests and legal operational rights of its members, helping those on the ideological front to bravely fight against evil and uphold justice. It promotes a guiding role, encouraging journalists to always stay close to current events. From the economic pulse and cultural identity to national defense and security, each high-quality journalistic work produced is a truthful snapshot of life's pulse, bringing prestigious awards and affirming the character and intellect of Son La's journalism.
Immediately after the merger of Son La Newspaper and Son La Radio and Television Station into Son La Newspaper and Radio and Television, the Son La Newspaper and Radio and Television Journalists' Association branch truly played a bridging role in uniting members and journalists, contributing positively to the unit's mission. Journalist Dam Xuan Phuong, Deputy Director of Son La Newspaper and Radio and Television, Vice Chairman of the Provincial Journalists' Association, and Secretary of the Son La Newspaper and Radio and Television Journalists' Association branch, shared: The branch's secretariat has upheld the traditions of the two branches before the merger, uniting members and, together with the agency and specialized departments, organizing training and professional exchanges on filming, photography, and digital content production, helping each reporter gradually master multitasking skills, meeting the requirements of building a multi-platform convergent media agency.
Self-training and development efforts have contributed to a strong transformation of Son La's Newspaper and Radio & Television in terms of production capacity and the quality of journalistic programs and works. A prominent mark is the widespread impact on major events, such as: the Party Congress at all levels, the 130th anniversary of the founding of Son La province (October 10, 1895 - October 10, 2025); and the election of deputies to the 16th National Assembly and People's Councils at all levels for the 2026-2031 term. Many works have created a buzz; from the beginning of the year until now, Son La Newspaper and Radio & Television have excellently won 2 Bronze prizes and 2 Encouragement prizes at the 17th National Radio Festival; and 1 C prize at the 2026 National Journalism Awards.
With a strong organization and a team of dedicated, passionate, and responsible members, the Son La Provincial Journalists Association has a solid foundation to continue to promote its role as a political, social, and professional organization, making a positive contribution to the development of the locality.
