Supporting underprivileged children

Over the years, thanks to mobilized funds, the Khanh Hoa Provincial Children's Protection Fund has provided timely support to thousands of poor, disadvantaged, and sick children in the province, helping them overcome adversity, rise above their circumstances, and continue their education. To support even more children, in the coming time, all levels of government, sectors, and organizations will strengthen efforts to build the Provincial Children's Protection Fund.

Timely support

Le Bao Khang (born in 2013, in Binh Loc commune, Dien Khanh district) suffers from congenital heart disease. However, due to his family's difficult circumstances, with his parents lacking stable employment and earning low incomes, they were unable to afford surgery and treatment. Aware of his condition and his family's situation, the Provincial Center for Social Protection and Social Work – the unit managing the Provincial Children's Protection Fund – mobilized and appealed to various organizations, businesses, and philanthropists to contribute over 180 million VND to support Khang's heart surgery. After the surgery and treatment, Khang is now healthy, no longer experiencing chest pain or shortness of breath, and he smiles more often. Importantly, Khang has returned to school more regularly than before.

Representatives from the Provincial Center for Social Protection and Social Work presented financial assistance from the Provincial Children's Protection Fund to the family of Hoàng Võ Thảo Nhi.

Hoang Vo Thao Nhi (born in 2023, Dien Phuoc commune, Dien Khanh district) also suffers from congenital heart disease, but due to the family's economic difficulties, they could not afford surgery or treatment. With guidance from the local authorities, the family contacted the Provincial Children's Protection Fund to connect with various sources of support, raising over 110 million VND; the Provincial Children's Protection Fund also provided 5 million VND to cover the cost of the heart surgery. Ms. Vo Tran Truc Ngan (Nhi's mother) shared: “After the surgery, Nhi is now healthier, more active, and no longer has difficulty breathing. I am very grateful for the support from various organizations and the Provincial Children's Protection Fund that helped my child overcome her illness…”

Khang and Nhi are just two of many cases in the province where the Provincial Children's Protection Fund has connected them with financial support for congenital heart surgery. Since 2024 alone, the Provincial Children's Protection Fund has mobilized and coordinated with the University Medical Center of Ho Chi Minh City, Tam Duc Heart Hospital, the Ho Chi Minh City Association for the Support of Poor Patients, the Provincial General Hospital, and various businesses and philanthropists to support congenital heart surgery for 15 children with a total cost of over 2 billion VND.

Ms. Nguyen Dinh Hong Loan, Director of the Provincial Center for Social Protection and Social Work, stated that over the years, the Provincial Children's Protection Fund has closely coordinated with various units and localities to actively mobilize resources to care for and support children. From the beginning of 2023 to February 2025 alone, the fund has mobilized over 1 billion VND to support and care for more than 5,180 children in the province. This includes awarding nearly 300 scholarships to children totaling over 300 million VND; supporting 62 children who suffered accidents, injuries, or serious illnesses with a total of 112 million VND; and distributing over 4,500 gifts worth over 650 million VND. In addition, the Provincial Children's Protection Fund has also mobilized and connected with many units and philanthropists to support hundreds of cases of children undergoing surgery for congenital heart defects, cleft lip and palate, and other serious illnesses.

Actively campaign to raise funds.

Surveys show that there are still many poor and disadvantaged children in the province who need assistance. Meanwhile, the resources raised for the Provincial Children's Protection Fund remain limited and cannot fully meet the needs of these children. Currently, the Children's Protection Funds at the district and commune levels have ceased operations, making fundraising in the province even more difficult. Furthermore, fundraising efforts for the Children's Protection Fund, under the collaborative program with the Provincial Labor Union, have been based on the voluntary contributions of officials, civil servants, and workers for many years, thus facing challenges in securing donations.

Mr. Nguyen Duc Tri, Vice Chairman of the Provincial Labor Union, said that currently, the province has developed 1,525 grassroots trade unions with more than 95,600 members. To improve the quality of support for children, especially the children of union members and workers in particularly difficult circumstances, the Provincial Labor Union aims to mobilize all union members, officials, civil servants, and workers in the province to contribute to the Children's Protection Fund with a minimum of 20,000 VND per person per year, striving for more than 85% of the total number of union members and workers to participate.

To achieve the set goals, the Provincial Labor Union focuses on disseminating information to union members and workers about the effectiveness and significance of the contributions and activities of the Provincial Children's Protection Fund, the responsibility of society in protecting, caring for, and educating children; and calls for voluntary support to secure funding for children. At the same time, it actively encourages units, organizations, businesses, and philanthropists to directly sponsor children in special circumstances or participate in charitable social activities for children. Furthermore, it organizes activities to support children in the province using funds raised from the Provincial Children's Protection Fund, ensuring transparency, targeting the right beneficiaries, and achieving high effectiveness…
