According to the National Power System and Electricity Market Operation Company (NSMO) under the Ministry of Industry and Trade , at 4:10 PM on May 13th, the peak power of the national electricity system reached 52,487 MW, setting a new record for 2026, equivalent to 95.5% of the record set in 2025.
Of that total, the peak power capacity of the North reached 24,893 MW. The peak power capacity of the South reached 23,261 MW, setting a new record for 2026, equivalent to 104.6% of the record set in 2025.
National electricity production reached 1.103 billion kWh, setting a new record for 2026, equivalent to 99.2% of the record set in 2025.

Of that total, the North achieved 510 million kWh, accounting for 46.2% of the national power system's output. The Central and Southern regions set new records for 2026, reaching 93.1% and 106.9% respectively of their 2025 records.
In terms of power source structure, coal-fired thermal power currently accounts for the largest proportion (53.4%), hydropower accounts for 26%, and the remainder is from other power sources.
According to NSMO, the national power system is operating safely and stably, with power sources optimally mobilized to ensure continuous electricity supply and meet the increased load demand amidst widespread heatwaves across the country. Voltage across the power system and load levels of equipment are within permissible operating limits.
According to forecasts, from May 25th to May 30th, there is a high probability of a severe heatwave occurring in Hanoi , the Northern Delta, and North Central Vietnam with temperatures exceeding 37⁰C. NSMO recommends that the community use energy efficiently and effectively during the peak of the 2026 dry season, especially during the upcoming hot days.
