On November 8th, the Department of Information and Communications of Vinh Long province organized the 2024 Information Security Workshop with the theme "Minimizing Information Leaks and Preventing Online Fraud".
The workshop aims to highlight the significant harms of malware and the security risks it poses to information systems and end users in the context of IT applications serving digital transformation; and to propose technological solutions and information security protection measures in the digital transformation process.
At the conference, delegates presented papers on: The current state of cybersecurity, information security, and data protection in cyberspace; Account breach risks - identification and prevention; The current state and trends of online fraud; Data protection and recovery to minimize damage from ransomware attacks…
According to Mr. Nguyen Trong Anh, Director of the Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention Department of the Ministry of Public Security , in the first six months of 2024, the unit detected and handled 211,000 cyberattack alerts and 20 particularly serious cyberattack incidents. A prominent example is the ransomware attack targeting financial, energy, and telecommunications corporations and businesses, causing disruptions to management and operations, and significant economic and reputational damage.
Regarding the illegal trading of personal, organizational, and business information and data on the internet, authorities have detected 201,903 leaked data packages online due to malware attacks, with approximately 12.3 million lines of information and data stolen.
To achieve a secure network system that meets cybersecurity and information security requirements, Mr. Nguyen Trong Anh recommends that organizations fully research and implement information system and network management processes. Specifically, these include: procedures for inspecting and evaluating equipment before commissioning; system administration and user management procedures; procedures for inspecting and evaluating information security, vulnerabilities, and loopholes; procedures for monitoring and controlling access; procedures for responding to, rescuing, and handling incidents; and developing and providing professional training for users and administrators.
According to Mr. Nguyen Khuong Hai, an information security expert from the Vietnam Information Security Association, there are many forms of online fraud today, including those that exploit the development of AI technology. Specifically, malicious actors use Deepfake technology to create fake videos impersonating the images and voices of reputable individuals. Fake calls using the voices of relatives or business leaders easily deceive victims.
To ensure information security, organizations and individuals need to use reliable web browsers and update them regularly; avoid sharing banking information and passwords through social media channels; hide personal information on the home pages of social media platforms; and actively participate in awareness training sessions and stay updated on new attack trends.
According to Doan Hong Hanh, Director of the Department of Information and Communications of Vinh Long province, digital transformation is an inevitable trend in today's era. It not only helps increase productivity and reduce costs but also opens up new development opportunities, creating new values beyond traditional ones. In recent times, Vinh Long has focused on many solutions in implementing digital transformation, especially ensuring cybersecurity for the implementation of Government Decree 06. For successful and sustainable digital transformation, ensuring cybersecurity plays a crucial role; it is an integral and inseparable part of the digital transformation process.
