Coach Van Persie is being criticized. |
Following Feyenoord's 3-4 defeat to Sparta Rotterdam in the city derby on January 18th, Timber lost his temper and made harsh statements targeting manager Van Persie.
“I just read the pre-game statements and I’m really disappointed. This isn’t the first time the manager hasn’t defended a player. To me, things have gone too far,” Timber shared.
The conflict stemmed from manager Van Persie's decision to bench Timber, amidst rumors that the 23-year-old was about to leave the club. Before the match against Sparta Rotterdam, Van Persie publicly questioned Timber's "training spirit" and "attitude," which the midfielder felt insulted and unprotected.
Speaking to ESPN , Timber denied accusations that he lacked effort in training. According to the midfielder, during his more than three and a half years at Feyenoord, he always gave his all, regardless of the position he was deployed in.
"Anyone who has worked with me at the club knows that I always fight for the team. To say that I don't try is nothing short of a charade," he emphasized.
The situation escalated when Timber bluntly challenged manager Van Persie to "talk to him directly," instead of making comments to the press.
These statements suggest a rift in the relationship between Timber and Van Persie. In this context, the 23-year-old midfielder's future at Feyenoord seems to be coming to an end.
