According to a leaked source called Fixed Focus Digital on Weibo, the iPhone 17 Pro was so successful that Apple kept almost the entire design of the iPhone 18 Pro.
Therefore, the external appearance of the iPhone 18 Pro will not have the major changes expected. Instead, Apple will focus all its efforts on the A20 and A20 Pro processors. This is predicted to be the most significant upgrade, making hardware power the key selling point.
Despite lacking groundbreaking design features, the iPhone 18 Pro is still highly anticipated due to its technological upgrades. Previously, leaked information from Weibo suggested that Apple might include a DSLR-style teleconverter on the iPhone 18 Pro.
This is an additional lens assembly that extends the focal length of the main lens, allowing users to photograph extremely distant objects without changing lenses.
Specifically, according to leaker Smart Pikachu, Apple is evaluating the possibility of incorporating a similar mechanism into the iPhone 18 Pro's camera system. It would function similarly to third-party detachable lenses that users often attach to their iPhones to enhance zoom capabilities.
Additionally, according to the South Korean news site ETNews , Samsung Display will supply low-temperature polycrystalline silicon oxide (LTPO+) OLED panels for the iPhone 18 Pro.
With LTPO+ OLED panels, future iPhone models could be more energy-efficient while maintaining a variable refresh rate of 1-120 Hz.
With the use of LTPO+ panels on the iPhone 18 Pro, Apple may also move the Face ID sensors under the screen instead of keeping them inside the notch.
A key benefit of LTPO+ is greater energy efficiency compared to the current LTPO technology in the iPhone 17 series. This opens up the possibility of extending iPhone battery life, while Apple doesn't need to upgrade capacity or make other improvements.
