The beaches are crowded with tourists.
The Hung Kings Commemoration Day, April 30th, and May 1st holidays in 2026 marked a vibrant tourism season nationwide, attracting approximately 12 million visitors, a 14.2% increase compared to the same period last year. Vietnamese tourism boomed at the beginning of summer, especially on beaches across the country, which were crowded with tourists swimming, playing, and relaxing, signaling a bountiful beach tourism season.

Vietnam's tourism industry is entering a period of explosive growth, with numerous destinations experiencing high occupancy rates, soaring revenues, and an increasingly diverse and attractive range of tourism products and activities, creating momentum to achieve the annual tourism revenue target. According to reports from localities, the hot weather during the two consecutive holidays (Ancestor Commemoration Day and April 30th-May 1st) boosted demand for cooling-off opportunities. Average national hotel occupancy reached 65-70%, with key coastal tourist destinations exceeding 90%.
Excluding the two major cities of Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang was the "star" of this year's holiday season. The city welcomed nearly 1.5 million visitors, generating revenue of 5,727 billion VND, an increase of nearly 35% compared to the same period in 2015. After merging with Quang Nam, Da Nang's appeal comes from its dynamic and modern coastal city, numerous entertainment events, and heritage sites such as Hoi An Ancient Town, My Son Sanctuary, traditional craft villages, and community tourism. However, its beautiful beaches with fine white sand and gentle waves are what always attract tourists to Da Nang.
In Vung Tau – a popular destination for people from Ho Chi Minh City and the southern provinces – the number of visitors surged dramatically from early morning on the first day of the holiday. Roads leading to the city center, especially the beaches: the Back Beach and Front Beach areas were constantly crowded, causing prolonged traffic congestion; the beaches were packed with tourists swimming and strolling.
According to the Vung Tau City Public Service Center (Ho Chi Minh City), during the April 30th - May 1st holiday in 2026, Vung Tau city welcomed over 151,000 visitors for sightseeing and relaxation. In just the two peak days of April 30th and May 1st, the number of visitors reached approximately 70,000 and 73,000 respectively, causing localized overcrowding at the beaches. The total number of visitors for the entire holiday period is expected to reach 200,000.
During the April 30th - May 1st, 2026 holiday, Sam Son beach (Thanh Hoa) witnessed a massive crowd, with tens of thousands of tourists flocking to swim, leaving almost no space on the sand. From Doc Cuoc Temple to the FLC resort, the beach was overloaded, creating an unprecedentedly crowded and bustling scene. Despite the crowds, the atmosphere was lively, signaling a booming summer tourism season in Sam Son.
During the two recent holiday periods, Quang Ninh welcomed approximately 1,345,000 tourists. Of these, about 1,275,000 were domestic tourists and about 70,000 were international tourists; the number of overnight stays was estimated at around 530,000. Total tourism revenue is estimated at approximately 4,165 billion VND.
This result shows that Quang Ninh continues to be one of the outstanding destinations nationwide during major holidays. With its advantages in natural landscapes, heritage sites, entertainment areas, beach and island tourism, and many new tourism products, the locality has attracted a large number of domestic and international tourists from the very beginning of the holiday, signaling a bountiful summer tourism season.
We need systematic investment to develop the strengths of the sea.

According to statistics, the number of tourists during this year's holiday season increased significantly compared to last year. Occupancy rates at accommodation facilities averaged around 70%, with many coastal and major urban tourist centers exceeding 80%, and even fully booked at times, demonstrating the strong appeal of heritage sites, ecotourism destinations, and especially beach tourism. These impressive figures reflect the high demand for tourism and demonstrate the comprehensive recovery of Vietnam's tourism industry, with a balanced spread across regions, from major cities and coastal areas to mountainous and heritage sites.
Vietnam's coastal tourism, with over 3,260 km of coastline and thousands of beautiful islands, is a pillar of the economy, accounting for 60-70% of the tourism industry's activities. Destinations such as Ha Long Bay, Da Nang, Nha Trang, and Con Dao have received international acclaim. Leveraging these strengths focuses on investing in infrastructure, developing green and sustainable tourism, creating jobs, and conserving resources.
Mr. Vu The Binh, Chairman of the Vietnam Tourism Association, believes that Vietnam's marine and island tourism resources are diverse and abundant. These resources have become a key product of Vietnamese tourism, namely beach resort tourism and other marine-related tourism products, contributing significantly to GDP. Marine tourism should be considered a strength of Vietnam's tourism strategy and requires systematic, long-term investment, along with state investment in marine tourism infrastructure. This harmonious and rational approach should exploit strengths on land, at sea, and underwater to create more distinctive marine tourism products.
