Recently, the Plant Protection Department ( Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development ) said it had received a document from the General Administration of Customs of China (GACC) announcing the results of reviewing the remedial records of durian growing area codes and facilities that failed the online inspection in January.
To date, Vietnam has 293 growing areas and 115 packaging facilities that have been granted official export codes by China to this market. (Photo: Hoang Giam).
Accordingly, the results show that 47/51 growing areas and 18 packaging facilities met the requirements and were given codes by GACC. The 4 growing areas that did not meet the requirements were due to the submitted documents not having enough information and the images not being clear, so the other side could not assess the improvement.
Thus, up to now, Vietnam has 293 growing areas and 115 packaging facilities that have been granted official export codes by China to this market.
Currently, the Plant Protection Department is working with GACC to agree on the next online inspection schedule for about 400 growing areas and 60 durian packing facilities. After agreeing on the schedule and inspection content, the Department will notify localities to proactively prepare and coordinate with the Department and GACC to implement according to plan.
According to GACC statistics, in 2022, China spent about 14.6 billion USD on fruit imports, an increase of 8% compared to 2021. Of which, durian imports accounted for nearly 30%, equivalent to 4 billion USD. Currently, Thailand is the largest durian supplier to the Chinese market with 3.85 billion USD, accounting for about 96% of import turnover.
In Vietnam, according to statistics from the General Department of Customs, durian is the fruit with the highest export growth in the fruit and vegetable industry in the first 3 months of the year. Specifically, the export value of durian in the first quarter reached 153 million USD, an increase of 8.3 times compared to the same period last year. Of which, durian exported to China accounted for 83%.
Previously, from July 11, 2022, Vietnamese durian was officially exported to the Chinese market, through all border gates permitted by the General Administration of Customs of China to import fruit.
