| Teachers from Duong Tu Minh High School guide students on skills and methods for taking the 2026 High School Graduation Examination. |
The entrance exam for 10th grade in the 2026-2027 school year will take place on May 27th and 28th with over 22,700 registered candidates. Following that, the 2026 high school graduation exam will be held on June 11th and 12th with over 22,800 registered candidates. The large scale of the exams, the numerous testing locations, and the large number of candidates place exceptionally high demands on the organization to ensure the exams are conducted safely and seriously.
In the context of rapidly developing technology, forms of exam cheating are also becoming increasingly sophisticated. Many cases involve the use of smartphones, miniature earphones, hidden cameras, internet-connected smartwatches, or artificial intelligence software to exchange information and solve exam questions from outside sources. Social media also features numerous open advertisements for exam-aiding devices, services for taking exams on behalf of others, and services for solving exam questions, operating discreetly and difficult to detect.
During the 2025 exams in Thai Nguyen, five cases of exam regulation violations were detected and handled, including one case of bringing unauthorized materials into the exam room and four cases of bringing mobile phones into the exam room. Notably, on May 15, 2026, the Internal Political Security Department (Thai Nguyen Provincial Police) verified and imposed administrative fines totaling 30 million VND on two individuals for the acts of taking the exam on behalf of others and having someone else take the exam on their behalf. These incidents continue to raise concerns about the potential for negative practices in examinations.
Lieutenant Colonel Ta Van Viet, Head of the Health, Education , and Social Labor Security Team, Internal Political Security Department (Thai Nguyen Provincial Police), stated: From the beginning of the year, the unit advised the Director of the Provincial Police to develop a plan to ensure security and safety for the 2026 exams; simultaneously, it disseminated this plan to police units and localities. The police force focused on monitoring the situation online, reviewing individuals suspected of buying and selling cheating devices, organizing exam cheating, or acting as intermediaries in examinations. Violations will be severely punished to deter and prevent similar offenses.
Simultaneously, the Department of Education and Training of Thai Nguyen province has coordinated with relevant units to implement many solutions to tighten discipline in examinations. The Department of Education and Training organized training on examination regulations for all officials and teachers involved; clearly defining the responsibilities of each individual, absolutely preventing any subjective errors from occurring. Schools also strengthened the dissemination of regulations to students; organized thematic activities, and analyzed the consequences of cheating in examinations.
Mr. Trinh Thanh Duong, Vice Principal of Khanh Hoa High School, said: "The school identifies educating students on honesty as the most important solution to prevent cheating. The school regularly reminds students not to bring mobile phones or electronic devices into the exam room; at the same time, we cooperate with parents to encourage students to maintain a calm and confident mindset. The most important thing is that students must believe in their own abilities, because only genuine knowledge will help them stand firm in important exams."
Mai Xuan Truong, a student in class 12A8 at Khanh Hoa High School, said: "The teachers have given us very thorough instructions on the exam regulations and the consequences of violating them. We have had ample preparation, so the most important thing right now is to stay healthy, maintain a stable mindset, and try our best on the exam using our own abilities."
This year, the exams in Thai Nguyen are being held amidst an increase in the number of students following the administrative boundary merger and the implementation of a two-tiered local government model. The entire province has arranged 47 high school graduation exam centers and 44 grade 10 entrance exam boards in communes and wards to facilitate travel for candidates.
To ensure absolute safety for the exam, all examination centers underwent thorough checks of their security camera systems and exam paper storage rooms; police and inspectors were deployed to key areas for supervision. The transportation of exam papers, sealing, and handover of answer sheets were carried out strictly according to procedures. Invigilators were also thoroughly instructed to check the items candidates brought into the examination room to promptly detect any unauthorized technological devices.
