Arsenal are in talks to extend the Ghanaian midfielder's contract by another two years. |
At 31, Partey is entering the final stages of his contract with Arsenal. Previously, many sources claimed he would leave this summer. However, his outstanding performances in recent months have made Arteta reconsider.
According to The Athletic , Partey is not only happy with his situation at Arsenal but also has a stable family life in London. In this context, Arsenal are willing to extend his contract by two years or offer a one-year contract with an option to renew for a further 12 months if Partey performs well.
During a season plagued by injuries for Arsenal, Partey was used flexibly by Arteta in various positions such as right-back or centre-back. He replaced Ben White at the start of the season and more recently filled the void left by Gabriel.
Partey's versatility and class have made him a crucial part of Arteta's strongest squad this season, with 45 appearances in all competitions.
In Arsenal's 3-0 victory over Real Madrid in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-finals, if it weren't for Declan Rice's spectacular free-kick, Partey would have fully deserved the Man of the Match award.
Partey's importance was further highlighted by the disappointed reactions of Arteta and Declan Rice when he was suspended for the first leg of the Champions League semi-final against Paris Saint-Germain due to accumulating too many yellow cards.
When asked about Partey's contract situation, Arteta gave an evasive answer: "It's true that there's progress with all the players, but I'm leaving that to Sporting Director Andrea Berta and the club."
