The 'ultimatum' of compassion

Even during the New Year's Day holiday, while the atmosphere of welcoming 2026 was still lingering, the Prime Minister signed and issued a directive with the force of an action order, named "Quang Trung Campaign," recalling the spirit of strong and decisive offensive action right from the beginning of the new year.

Behind that spirited name lies a race against time, with the ultimate goal of completing the construction and repair of houses for households in Central Vietnam affected by natural disasters. All efforts must reach the finish line before January 15, 2026, to ensure that people have stable housing and livelihoods before the 14th National Party Congress, and to restore production and stabilize livelihoods in time to celebrate the Lunar New Year of the Horse.

"The Quang Trung Campaign" reminds us of King Quang Trung's swift, daring, and unexpected march to decisively defeat the Qing army in the spring of 1789. At that time, speed determined the fate of the nation. Today, in Official Telegram No. 01, speed is the measure of the people's faith and the hope of the people in the flood-stricken areas.

The Prime Minister instructed workers to "work in three shifts, four teams," day and night, even through holidays. This sense of urgency, previously reserved for multi-billion dollar national projects, is now being channeled to individual households.

Because the joy of the Congress and the Lunar New Year would be incomplete if, while we are discussing our glorious progress, our compatriots outside are still huddled in cold, windy huts.

The 15-1 target is a mandate, and the quality of the construction is the measure of responsibility. In the directive, the Prime Minister emphasized that local leaders must "take responsibility for the quality of the construction."

This serves as a reminder to all involved that: Even with the rapid pace and the race against time, every brick laid and every roof installed must ensure absolute stability and safety. Building houses for the people is for them to live in for a lifetime, to provide shelter from future storms and floods, not just temporary solutions to meet quotas. The safety of the people after they move in is the ultimate measure of the campaign's success.

In the directive, the Prime Minister clearly stated: If difficulties exceed their authority, they must report immediately by January 3, 2026. This is truly an ultimatum regarding responsibility. Leaders of the provinces and cities of Quang Tri, Hue, Da Nang , Quang Ngai, Gia Lai, Dak Lak, Khanh Hoa, and Lam Dong need to immediately review all available resources.

There will be no satisfactory explanation after January 3rd if local authorities remain silent today, leaving the work unfinished by the January 15th deadline. This silence, or the subsequent delays, would be a major failure to meet the people's expectations.

It is a command from the heart; anyone who is indifferent or stands aloof is at fault towards the people.
