The Vietnamese e-commerce market is entering a period of significant restructuring. Many e-commerce platforms are tending to increase fees. The new E-commerce Law, effective from July 1st, brings about higher demands for transparency of goods, and consequently, a more rigorous market selection process. Competitive advantage is shifting from a price war to optimizing costs, applying technology, and reducing dependence on e-commerce platforms.
To optimize sales costs on the platform, sellers must employ effective sales methods. For example, selling a product bundle on the platform costs approximately 10,000 VND. Therefore, they would have to sell a combo of 10 bundles at the same cost to ensure profitability.
In addition to selling bundled packages, the direct sales model or the use of artificial intelligence (AI) helps to minimize intermediary costs. Calculations show that this solution reduces operating and advertising costs by 15-30%.
Nguyen Tran Tin, an e-commerce seller, said: "AI can do many things, not just edit images. It can also help me create scripts, optimize product content, and develop strategies for pricing and campaigns."
Nguyen Thanh Nam, a Marketing Consultant, shared: "Traditionally, people would spend a lot of money, time, and resources to shoot a video . However, if AI is applied, the cost is reduced significantly, possibly by dozens of times."
According to experts, the use of tools such as AI or enterprise mini-app channels can now be seen as a cost-effective solution and, in particular, a way to gradually reduce dependence on established platforms.
Dr. Thai Kim Phung - Head of the Business Information Technology Department, Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics , stated: "We need to build our own channel. Currently, developing technology or applying AI is not a difficult problem. Especially now, the cost is quite low. Therefore, businesses need to proactively focus on building their own platform, reducing dependence on existing platforms, and ensuring they acquire customer data and encourage repeat purchases."
Many believe that Vietnam is entering a new cycle where the advantage no longer lies with the biggest discount makers, but with businesses that have the resources to retain customers longer and operate more efficiently.
