Tomiyasu left Arsenal. |
On the afternoon of July 4th, according to the BBC , both Arsenal and Tomiyasu reached an agreement to terminate his contract early. Since joining Arsenal from Bologna in 2021, the defender has made 79 appearances and featured in important matches for the team.
A persistent knee injury prevented Tomiyasu from playing throughout the 2024/25 season. He only appeared for a mere 6 minutes for Arsenal. Furthermore, The Times reported that Tomiyasu might be sidelined for the early stages of the 2025/26 season.
Since moving to England, Tomiyasu has suffered a total of eight different injuries, resulting in over 456 days out of action – a record for the current Arsenal squad. Arsenal's medical team fears the Japanese international may never regain his previous fitness.
After terminating Tomiyasu's contract, Arsenal began looking for reinforcements for their defense. One of the targets the Gunners are aiming for is Valencia's central defender Cristhian Mosquera.
Besides Tomiyasu, Arsenal also parted ways with left-back Kieran Tierney (who moved to Celtic). The Emirates Stadium team's defense is becoming even more vulnerable as Oleksandr Zinchenko may also leave the team this summer.
