Báo Tổ quốcBáo Tổ quốc16/02/2024

This information was shared by the Vietnam Writers Association at a press conference on February 16th. Chairman of the Vietnam Writers Association, Nguyen Quang Thieu, stated: "The 22nd Vietnam Poetry Day in 2024 is organized to introduce to the public the precious poetic heritage in the treasury of poetry of Vietnam's 54 ethnic groups, as well as representative works by national poets or works about the nature, land, and people of Vietnam's ethnic groups on our beloved S-shaped land."

The Vietnam Writers Association will invite poets and writers representing Vietnam's ethnic minorities such as the Muong, Thai, Tay, Khmer, Ede, Cham, and Hoa... from many parts of the country to Thang Long Imperial Citadel (Hanoi) to sing together "songs" about people, about the nation, and about beautiful things; participate in seminars and discussions to talk about national cultural identity in poetic creations, and solutions to both preserve national cultural identity and bring national culture closer to modernity and reach out to the world ..." - poet Nguyen Quang Thieu emphasized.

Chairman of the Vietnam Writers Association, Nguyen Quang Thieu, shared this at the press conference.

As the General Director of the 22nd Vietnam Poetry Day, director Le Quy Duong shared: This year's Poetry Day, held in the space in front of Doan Mon Gate of Thang Long Imperial Citadel, will brilliantly showcase the diverse beauty and colors of Vietnam's ethnic groups. The overall design of this year's Poetry Day space is inspired by the theme "The Harmony of the Nation," embodying the spirit of national unity. The main events will take place along the sacred axis of Thang Long Imperial Citadel, stretching from Doan Mon Gate to the Hanoi Flagpole.

The Lantern Festival Poetry Night is held on the full moon of the first lunar month, so the moon was chosen as the design language for the artistic space. The poetry gate features crescent moons curving along their journey to full moon. Passing through the gate leads to a path decorated with stylized young leaves, featuring motifs from the traditional costumes of Vietnam's ethnic groups. Each leaf is inscribed with a beautiful poem selected by the organizers. In total, there will be 54 poems, corresponding to the 54 ethnic groups of Vietnam.

Next is the poetry tree, topped with a half-moon, and below are 54 poetic riddles hanging on its branches. Audiences can participate in the quiz: recite a poem, correctly identify the author, and receive a prize. The final destination is the main stage – a full moon, concluding the crescent moon's journey from the poetry gate to the poetry night venue.

At the center of the sacred axis, this year the organizers continue to build the House of Memories, a space displaying memorabilia, artifacts, and works of 12 prominent poets, led by the poet-President Ho Chi Minh, and 11 ethnic minority poets who have won the Ho Chi Minh Prize for Literature and Art. The House of Memories is designed in the architectural style of a longhouse of the Central Highlands people.

"It can be said that these design ideas are new and unique, creating a space with special significance for this year's Vietnamese Poetry Day," director Le Quy Duong affirmed.

The 22nd Vietnam Poetry Day will take place on January 15th and 16th. From the 14th (February 23rd, 2024), the public can begin visiting the House of Memories, the Poetry Street, participating in poetry quizzes, and attending author and work introduction sessions for young and established poets; as well as activities of several poetry clubs in poetry cafes arranged by the organizing committee.

On the full moon of the first lunar month (February 24, 2024), the main events of Poetry Day will take place. The morning will feature a panel discussion: "From the Poet's Character to His Identity," starting at 8:30 AM, chaired by writer Nguyen Binh Phuong, Vice President of the Vietnam Writers Association, with the participation of many poets, scholars, and literary critics to explain the relationship, both identical and distinct, between the character and identity of the creative process in poetry.

The evening featured a Poetry Night titled "Harmony of the Homeland." The program began with a performance of gong music by the Muong ethnic group, performed by artists from Hoa Binh province around 22 torch-shaped platforms, corresponding to the 22nd anniversary of Vietnam Poetry Day. This was followed by the main events of the Poetry Night, comprising four parts: Part one: Performances and poetry readings by authors from the North; Part two: International poets participating in exchanges and poetry readings; Part three: Performances and poetry readings by authors from the Central-Central Highlands and Southern regions; Part four: Lasting Echoes.

This year's Poetry Night program is a harmonious and balanced combination of theatrical elements in poetry performance.

The works performed at the Poetry Night included narrative poems and epics: "Hundred Birds, Hundred Flowers" of the Tay ethnic group; "Giving Birth to the Earth and Water" of the Muong ethnic group; and "Xong Chu Xonxao" (Farewell to the Beloved) of the Thai ethnic group. These are masterpieces of poetry from the treasure trove of folk literature of the Vietnamese ethnic groups.

Poems by 16 domestic and international authors will be read directly by the authors themselves or recited by poets and artists. Some of the poets whose works will be featured at the Poetry Night include: Nong Quoc Chan, Duong Khau Luong (Tay ethnic group); Lo Ngan Sun (Giay ethnic group); Po Sao Min (Pa Di ethnic group), Ly Huu Luong (Dao ethnic group), Kieu Mai Ly (Cham ethnic group),…

This year's Poetry Night program is a harmonious and balanced combination of theatrical elements in poetry performances, utilizing musical effects, acting, sound, lighting, costumes, etc., while simultaneously maintaining the traditional way of reading poetry by the poets, with the desire to bring the audience a complete appreciation of the outstanding poetic works of national poets.
