International Labor Day on May 1 in Vietnam is not only an occasion for workers across the country to rest and have fun after hard working days, but also an opportunity to honor the great contributions of the working class and laborers to the cause of building and developing the country.

Historical Mark

May 1st International Labor Day has a meaningful history. Originating from the strong struggle of the working class in the United States in the late 19th century demanding the right to work 8 hours/day, May 1st has become a symbol of solidarity and the will to fight for the legitimate rights of workers around the world . In Vietnam, the working class and laborers have affirmed their core role, creating proud achievements in all fields.

In recent days, the atmosphere of preparation for International Labor Day 1/5 has been bustling throughout the country. From factories, enterprises to agencies and units, everywhere you can see the spirit of enthusiasm and excitement. In industrial parks and export processing zones, many enterprises have planned to organize practical activities to show gratitude to workers. Cultural and sports programs, meetings and exchanges have been organized, creating a healthy playground, strengthening solidarity and attachment between workers and enterprises.

Governments and trade unions across the country also have many practical activities towards International Labor Day. Conferences and seminars on labor policies, meetings to listen to workers' opinions are organized, promptly grasping their thoughts and aspirations, and resolving difficulties and problems in their lives and work.

In 2025, the implementation of International Labor Day on May 1 in Vietnam takes place in the context of many important socio -economic changes. The Government continues to promote policies to support workers, especially in the context of economic recovery after the impact of the pandemic and challenges from the world situation. One of the notable highlights is the increasing attention to the issue of improving the quality of human resources and ensuring social security for workers.

Vocational training and skill improvement programs are widely implemented, helping workers access better job opportunities and adapt to changes in the labor market. In addition, the implementation of labor laws and regulations, ensuring the legitimate rights and interests of workers are also focused on by all levels and sectors. Inspection and examination of the implementation of labor laws are strengthened to prevent violations of workers' rights.

Looking to the future

Ms. Nguyen Thi Lan (environmental sanitation worker in Long Xuyen City) shared: “Our work is hard and often goes unnoticed. But we understand that our work contributes to making the city cleaner and more beautiful. May 1 is an opportunity for us to feel proud of what we are doing.”

Mr. Nguyen Van Tam (agricultural engineer) expressed: “I believe that the creativity and efforts of each employee contribute to the overall development of the agency, enterprise and the country. May 1 is the motivation for us to continue to contribute and develop ourselves”. The stories of Ms. Lan and Mr. Tam are proof of the sense of responsibility, dedication and love for the profession of Vietnamese employees. They are silent heroes, contributing to the great achievements of their homeland and country.

In the context of globalization, the 4.0 industrial revolution is taking place strongly, the role of the working class and Vietnamese workers is becoming more and more important. To meet the new requirements of the era, improving the quality of human resources, building a team of skilled workers with high professional qualifications is an urgent task. The State and enterprises need to continue to have breakthrough policies, creating favorable conditions for workers to study, improve their skills, improve working conditions and living conditions. At the same time, it is necessary to strengthen the protection of the legitimate and legal rights and interests of workers, building harmonious, stable and progressive labor relations.

International Labor Day, May 1, is an occasion to look back at the achievements, an opportunity to arouse new spirit, create strong motivation for the working class and Vietnamese laborers to continue to promote their pioneering role, contributing to the cause of building a prosperous and happy Vietnam.
