The Prime Minister expressed his deep gratitude to the WHO, international organizations and the international community, and to Mr. Ghebreyesus personally, for their invaluable support to Vietnam during the most difficult times of the COVID-19 pandemic, which significantly contributed to Vietnam's control of the pandemic with nearly 260 million doses of vaccine administered. Thanks to this support, Vietnam was able to control the disease early, reopen, and restore its socio-economic activities .

The Prime Minister emphasized that the COVID-19 pandemic has shown the importance of the whole world and each country enhancing its capacity to respond to epidemics. In that spirit, the Prime Minister called on countries to unite internationally, uphold multilateralism, and adopt a global, people-to-people approach to improve their capacity to respond to global issues, including epidemics. In this process, Vietnam supports the leading role of the United Nations, especially the WHO.
The WHO Director-General highly appreciated Vietnam's efforts in preventing and controlling the COVID-19 pandemic, affirming that Vietnam's self-reliance was the decisive factor in the success of the COVID-19 prevention and control campaign. Vietnam has set out a clear strategy, mobilized the cooperation of its people, and committed to the end in implementing pandemic prevention and control measures.
The WHO Director-General stated that the organization is ready to continue supporting Vietnam in disease prevention and control and in transferring technology in the health sector; and requested Vietnam's support in negotiating the Agreement on Disease Control with the aim of completing it by May 2024.
