Speaking to the Nguoi Lao Dong newspaper, Ms. KU, the parent of GP (a 5th grade student at Nguyen Thi Primary School, District 11), said she had filed appeals to various authorities and the press regarding the prolonged abuse of students by the homeroom teacher of class 5/2, Mr. TA.

According to this parent, since September 2024, her child, after returning from school, told the family that the teacher had hit her on the hand for not doing her homework and was afraid to go to class anymore. Because they trusted the teacher and thought it was just a light punishment, the family carelessly didn't ask how many times he hit her or what he used. After discussing it over the phone and via Zalo, the teacher admitted to hitting the child and promised not to hit her again. "Because the child cried and was afraid to go to school, I let her take a day and a half off. On the afternoon of the second day after the incident, I encouraged her and promised the teacher wouldn't hit her again, so she went to school normally. I considered everything to be over," Ms. U. said.

Until the end of the first semester (December 2024), this parent continued to hear their child recount how the children in class 5/2 were being beaten by the same teacher for talking and not doing their homework. However, at this point, the child couldn't specify which children were involved, so the family didn't ask any further questions.

However, on April 14, 2025, this parent read two messages in the parents' Zalo group: one from Ms. M, the mother of TN, a student in class 5/2, about her child being hit by the English teacher; and another from Ms. NH, the mother of GV, also in class 5/2, about V. accidentally stepping on Ms. Q's (the English teacher) foot while playing with a friend. Ms. Q then hit V. on the head with a handbag in front of many students (the handbag contained a stainless steel water bottle) and then kicked V.

Many parents have complained that teacher TA has repeatedly hit students, hitting multiple students.

On the afternoon of April 14, 2025, a parent went to the school to discuss their child being beaten by teacher TA. The teacher recorded in the report that the beating was disciplinary, but the parent was unclear about the nature of the punishment. However, some students who witnessed the incident recounted that teacher TA pushed the child down onto the podium, punched them in the stomach, and kicked them in the back... Afterwards, teacher TA apologized in front of the class, and a parent recorded the incident and sent it to the parents' Zalo group...

Following the incident, many parents were very worried and questioned their children. Several children in the class said they had been hit by teacher TA multiple times, and that teacher TA had hit many other students in the class.

What did the school say?

Mr. Nguyen Minh Duc, Principal of Nguyen Thi Primary School, confirmed that the information provided by the parents was accurate. According to Mr. Duc, the school promptly and thoroughly handled the matter immediately after receiving the parents' complaints.

The leader of Nguyen Thi Primary School added that immediately after receiving the parents' feedback, the school's functional departments quickly investigated and clarified the matter, requesting teacher TA to write a report, conduct a personal self-criticism, and clearly present all the events that the parents reported.

In his self-criticism report, teacher TA admitted to hitting a student in class 5/2, as the parents had reported. “Through this incident, I realize my mistake for being hot-tempered and using inappropriate teaching methods. I sincerely hope the school and the parents will forgive me so that I can learn from this experience and continue to strive in my teaching career,” the report stated.

The principal of Nguyen Thi Primary School stated that teacher TA is a young teacher, but sometimes shows impatience in wanting students to achieve the learning goals he sets, leading to inappropriate methods such as hitting or punishing students when teaching them to do homework or study.

The principal of Nguyen Thi Primary School said the school had handled the incident very quickly and thoroughly.

On April 15th, the school held a meeting with the parents of class 5/2. At this meeting, the parents requested that the school thoroughly address the case of teacher TA hitting students and closely monitor the teacher's teaching methods. Following this, on April 21st, the school held an expanded joint meeting to review and address the case of teacher TA being further accused by parents of hitting students.

At this meeting, after listening to the opinions of the parents of students in class 5/2, the opinions of the members attending the expanded joint meeting, and the wishes of the majority of parents in this class, the members attending the meeting voted to allow Mr. TA to teach in class 5/2, but he would not be allowed to perform the homeroom teacher duties; instead, another teacher would be assigned to be the homeroom teacher.

Furthermore, Mr. TA will not be considered for the "Advanced Labor Emulation" title for the 2024-2025 school year, his performance evaluation and ranking at the end of this school year will be at the "Completed tasks" level, and his performance evaluation for the second quarter of 2025 will also be at the "Completed tasks" level (he will not receive additional income). Regarding his act of hitting student D. in October 2024, Mr. TA has also been disciplined by the school with a one-level reduction in his performance evaluation for the fourth quarter of 2024 (from "Completed tasks well" to "Completed tasks").
