On January 1st, the city honored 14 young citizens who have demonstrated creativity and outstanding achievements in work, research, and study.
The ceremony honoring outstanding young citizens is an annual event organized by the Ho Chi Minh City Youth Union on New Year's Day for the past 18 years. To date, the city has honored a total of 151 outstanding individuals who have made positive contributions to the development of the city and the country.
This year, in the field of science , young researchers have two outstanding examples from the Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City: Dr. Ha Thi Thanh Huong, 34 years old, working at the International University, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Thanh Long, 35 years old, lecturer at the University of Technology, with 35 published scientific research papers.
Dr. Huong's research focuses on areas related to brain health and applications of research on Alzheimer's disease, stress, brain-computer interfaces to support stroke patients, and the research and application of AI technology to assist in disease diagnosis and intervention for the general public.

The group of students included three individuals who were honored: Le Minh Khang, 20 years old, from the Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy, a city-level "5 Good Student" with many consecutive years of excellent academic achievements and numerous awards in medical competitions both domestically and internationally...
Le Minh Duc, 18 years old, a 12th-grade student at Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted, won 5 awards at national and international competitions with his four-legged robot model to assist in search and rescue operations in landslide-affected areas. The idea was inspired by the sacrifice of officers and soldiers who died while rescuing people at the Rao Trang hydroelectric plant in 2020. The unique feature of this robot is its distinctive propeller-like foot design, allowing it to move through the muddy terrain of landslide areas.
Le Nam Long, 13 years old, a 7th-grade student at Tran Dai Nghia Specialized High School, has won numerous awards and gold medals in mathematics competitions, including first prize in the Grand Final round of the STEM Olympiad International.
In the field of labor and production, outstanding civil servants Nguyen Tran Anh Vu, 33 years old, Deputy Head of the Organization and Personnel Department, Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction, and Nguyen Hoang Duy Luu, 34 years old, Deputy Head of the Crop and Animal Research Department, Ho Chi Minh City High-Tech Agricultural Zone Management Board, were both honored.

Among young entrepreneurs, one individual honored is Mr. Nguyen Hong Duy, 34 years old, director of Hallelu Chocolate Company Limited (Thu Duc City). Mr. Duy is recognized as one of the confident young entrepreneurs who has brought Vietnamese agricultural products to the international market. His company produces and processes cocoa and chocolate from cocoa.
In the field of national defense, security, and armed forces, two individuals were honored: Captain Vo Thi Bich Phuong, 31 years old, Deputy Head of the Youth Department of the Ho Chi Minh City Police, and Lieutenant Colonel Ngo Truong An, 34 years old, Deputy Political Commissar of the Gia Dinh Regiment, City Command.
The program also honored two outstanding artists and athletes in the fields of culture, arts, and sports : actress Huynh Thi Anh Thi, 34, who works at the Ho Chi Minh City Traditional Opera Theatre, and gymnast Nguyen Van Khanh, 22.
Two outstanding figures in youth union and student association activities are teacher Luu Hoang Phuc, 32 years old, who works as the head of the student team at Lac Long Quan Primary School, District 11, and Huynh Anh Thu, 13 years old, the head of the student team at Nguyen Du Secondary School, Go Vap District.
Speaking at the awards ceremony, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Phan Van Mai said that the honored individuals, with their achievements and efforts to excel in learning, working, and research, have spread positive energy to the community. "We will try to ignite this spirit so that it spreads to the working atmosphere in 2024," Mr. Mai said.
Quoting the exemplary young citizen Le Minh Duc, who "realized his technological dreams through love," Mr. Mai hoped that young people would always nurture their love for the city. "Without love for science, this city, and this country, it would be difficult for us to realize our great dreams," Mr. Mai said.
The city's leader suggested that the Youth Union, Youth Association, and Children's Union design activities that are closely linked to the city's development needs, connecting 151 exemplary citizens from previous years and outstanding young people who love the city to contribute to its overall development.
