Consumers are tightening their spending.
According to our reporter's observations, in contrast to the usual hustle and bustle at this time of year, the Christmas decoration market this year is somewhat less vibrant. Visitors still come to browse and take photos, but the amount of purchases has decreased significantly.
According to some small business owners, while last year at this time, customers flocked to buy Christmas trees to decorate their homes, offices, or cafes, this year many families are prioritizing reusing old items, only buying a few small accessories to save costs. Customers are concentrated in the evenings and on weekends, but purchasing power is weaker, especially for high-value items such as large Christmas trees or complete decoration sets.

Speaking to a reporter from the Industry and Trade Newspaper, Ms. Nguyen Thu Ha (34 years old, Tan My ward) said: "Every year I want to decorate for Christmas, but this year I have to cut back on spending. Small items like lights or ornaments can still be bought, and I'm reusing old items from last year to save money. I see fewer customers than last year; many people are like me, mainly choosing a few small, inexpensive items..."
Ms. Pham Ngoc Vy (28 years old, Tan Hung ward) shared: " Although the shopping atmosphere seems quieter this year, the variety of designs is still very diverse, from mini items to large decorative door wreaths. Prices are also quite reasonable, not much higher than last year, so if you like something, it's still easy to find a few items that fit your budget. I only chose a few small items to decorate my children's rooms, but I prioritized individual items with low prices."
Stable prices make it easier for customers to choose and buy.
Despite a slight slowdown in purchasing power, Christmas decoration stores in Ho Chi Minh City are still stocking a plentiful supply of goods with diverse designs to suit various consumer groups. According to assessments, the prices of Christmas decorations this year are quite stable, largely unchanged from the previous season, making it easier for buyers to choose even with limited budgets.

Speaking with a reporter from the Industry and Trade Newspaper, Mr. Thai, the owner of Phong Thai store on Hai Thuong Lan Ong Street, said that prices this year have remained stable compared to previous years, and the inventory now has a wider variety of designs.
The shop owner said that mini Christmas trees for tabletops cost from 25,000 to 90,000 VND; those 30-60cm tall range from 100,000 to 300,000 VND; while larger trees from 1.2 to 3m tall cost from 400,000 VND to about 6 million VND depending on the type.
Decorative accessories such as tinsel, wreaths, baubles, and Santa Claus figurines still maintain their common prices ranging from 25,000 to 200,000 VND per item. Some specialized items like decorative gift boxes or Christmas lollipops have increased in price, but the increase is not significant.
"The stable prices mean customers aren't too hesitant to buy, which is a positive sign for us small business owners. However, purchasing power this year has decreased significantly compared to the same period last year, which worries us a little. There are about two weeks left until Christmas, and we hope that sales will increase sharply this week," Mr. Thai shared.
Mr. Vo Thanh Nhan, the owner of a souvenir shop in Ben Luc town (formerly Long An province), has been going to Ho Chi Minh City for many years to source goods for sale at the end of each year. Mr. Nhan shared that although purchasing power has decreased, the fact that prices haven't increased dramatically gives him more peace of mind when importing goods.
"Best-selling items like fairy lights, ornaments, and wreaths... all maintain reasonable prices. Christmas trees come in various price ranges. Importing them to resell in the provinces is also convenient for me because prices haven't increased much, making it easy for customers to choose. For a small shop, this stability is very important," Nhân said.

Although not as bustling as in previous Christmas seasons, the shops on Hai Thuong Lan Ong Street remain a popular choice for many families in Ho Chi Minh City during the year-end holiday season. In the context of tightened spending, the stable prices of Christmas decorations this year give consumers peace of mind, ensuring a budget-friendly Christmas.
