On August 1st, Thu Duc City (Ho Chi Minh City) held a conference to commend and reward outstanding students and teachers who coached gifted students in the 2023-2024 school year.
According to a report from the Department of Education and Training of Thu Duc City, in the 2023-2024 school year, Thu Duc City had 13 students who excelled at the international level, 5 students who excelled at the national level; and 1 student who was the top scorer in specialized mathematics in the 10th grade entrance exam. At the city level, there were 245 excellent high school students; 222 excellent junior high school students, including 6 first prizes, 72 second prizes, and 144 third prizes; and 36 students who won awards in professional activities, cultural, sports, and arts festivals at the city, national, and international levels.
Leaders of the Thu Duc City People's Committee assessed that the work of training gifted students to participate in the Ho Chi Minh City-level gifted student competition in the past year by the Thu Duc City Department of Education and Training has achieved many noteworthy results.
According to the leaders of the Department of Education and Training of Thu Duc City, to achieve these accomplishments, during the teaching process, subject teachers always observe and assess using various solutions and methods to early identify gifted and talented students, thereby providing appropriate support methods for each student, helping them strongly develop their strengths in learning, training, and scientific research.

The nurturing of gifted and talented students is focused and prioritized in stages, tailored to each individual. The curriculum for developing students' knowledge and skills is clearly and specifically designed; emphasis is placed on innovation in teaching to foster active participation, initiative, creativity, and self-learning skills; and to enhance practical skills and improve the application of knowledge and skills to solve real-world problems.
In the 2023-2024 school year, Thu Duc City (Ho Chi Minh City) had the highest number of outstanding 9th-grade students at the city level among all districts and counties.
Mr. Nguyen Ky Phung, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Thu Duc City, said that Thu Duc City is a young city with many industrial parks and export processing zones located within its boundaries, thus facing considerable difficulties with a large influx of migrants, creating pressure not only on the education sector but also affecting other sectors. However, in the past academic year, the education and training sector of Thu Duc City continued to maintain and achieve the assigned targets, contributing to the successful implementation of the political tasks of Thu Duc City.
