INFORMATION ABOUT THE
PAINTING "HERDING BUFFALO AND FLYING A KITE" Material: Engraved lacquer - Size: 50 x 60 cm Adapted from Dong Ho folk paintings The painting "Herding Buffalo and Flying a Kite" depicts a boy lying on his back on the back of a buffalo flying a kite. The buffalo in the painting has its front legs lifted as if wanting to fly with the kite. The painting, with the inscription: "The Most Blessed Harvest for the People," shows the buffalo walking slowly, its head turned to one side looking straight ahead, its eyes bright, its horns raised like a crescent moon. The boy spreads a mat on the buffalo's back, tucking in a few chrysanthemum branches, his bare torso and loincloth making him lie on his back looking at the sky. His right hand tightly holds the string of the kite, which is full of wind and soaring high above his head, evoking the image of an umbrella. His belly (in Sino-Vietnamese, "blessing") is full and round, representing the farmer's wish for a peaceful life filled with blessings and good fortune. A buffalo with its head held high symbolizes a calm and stable spirit, not wanting to compete or struggle with life, but still possessing the will to strive and rely on its own abilities to achieve its goals. A buffalo with its head bowed, on the other hand, signifies humility, harmony, patience, and a touch of meekness. A bowed buffalo is believed to invite good fortune, enhance prestige, expand relationships, and create opportunities for oneself. In feng shui, a buffalo is also considered an indispensable treasure for those working in banking, investment, real estate, and finance.
