The exhibition "Reflection of Light" by artist Nguyen Trong Tai, which opened on the morning of December 21st, attracted the attention of the art community and art lovers.
This exhibition features 29 works created by artist Nguyen Trong Tai over the past five years.

Graduating with a degree in woodblock printing from the Vietnam Fine Arts University – a field demanding rigorous thinking, decisiveness, and precise calculations – artist Nguyen Trong Tai quickly formed a solid foundation in sculptural structure. This starting point fostered his professional prowess, enabling him to control space, composition, and visual rhythm in each of his works.
After graduating, Nguyen Trong Tai pursued oil painting for many years. For him, oil painting is not only a means of expression, but also a perfect "bridge" connecting the sharp, detailed depiction of woodblock prints with the ability to create depth and light – key elements that enabled him to master other materials later on.
At the exhibition, Nguyen Trong Tai's oil paintings mostly feature themes of ruins, ancient architecture, and heritage buildings. The muted color palette and solid compositions evoke a sense of historical depth and the ravages of time. There is no superficial romanticism, but rather a rigorous, unvarnished look at origins – where beauty is distilled from ruins.
Besides that main theme, the ballet section, with 12 works, is where he applies a combination of international techniques and the Vietnamese spirit. His oil paintings of ballet have contributed to the artist's reputation, warmly received by the public and collectors alike for their harmonious blend of standard body structure and profound emotion.

Recently, Nguyễn Trọng Tài has found a clear emotional transcendence with pastels. He has "liberated" pastels from their traditional sketching role, using dry powder as an independent medium to depict intangible elements: light, air humidity, rhythm, and emotional states. He skillfully applies the technique of "stirring the pastel colors," creating subtle layers of emotion.
In his nude paintings, the artist chooses a discreet and subtle approach. The integration of natural elements and cultural heritage into the female form creates a profound connection between physical beauty and cultural identity. The artist celebrates the beauty of the body with respect, poetic beauty, and restraint.
The exhibition "Reflections in the Light" is therefore not simply a display, but also the culmination of a long journey: from engravings to oil paintings, from structure to light, from observing the external world to introspection.
According to Nguyen Trong Tai, "reflecting the light" is the light that flashes from cracks, from fragments of ancient artifacts that were once buried under many layers of geological strata. It is the clash and reflection between the perfect and the imperfect, between the golden standard and the beauty of the remaining ruins.

This is also a return to inner light, a journey of self-discovery for each individual artist. In this exhibition space, that light is not dazzling or noisy, but pure and gentle, touching the viewer and leaving a mark as a beautiful, peaceful realm of emotion.
The exhibition "Reflections of Light" is open to visitors until December 27th at the Vietnam Fine Arts Museum (66 Nguyen Thai Hoc, Ba Dinh, Hanoi ).
