Because the sea is a magical gift that nature has bestowed on us in our daily lives and is always special in our hearts.

1. Going against the road, against the street to Nam O beach on a sunny afternoon, gentle wind, with blue and white clouds swirling across the distant hills on Hai Van peak, I met Mr. Tran Ngoc Vinh, Chairman of Nam O Fish Sauce Village Association, who was passionately taking care of and cherishing each earthenware jar of fragrant fish sauce. Also a fisherman who has braved the storms at sea for nearly 30 years, in his memory, when mentioning Nam O beach, he is always proud to be born and raised here. To him, Nam O beach not only possesses a beautiful location, harmonious green landscape of old forests and poetic rivers, but also produces rice to feed his children to become educated people. Therefore, the sea is like the breath, the life of four generations of his family in the past and present.

Mr. Vinh expressed that unlike now, all you need to do is place a fish and a grain of salt to actively make fish sauce. In the past, to make a jar of fish sauce, from late at night to early morning, he and the whole village waited tirelessly for ships at the beach. Each ship that docked meant so much hope for the future of the whole family. Just like that, people measured and counted each anchovy, firm, plump, shiny. Once they were there, everyone carried the fish home to process and begin the process of making fish sauce. Now, every time he goes to sea, the vivid memories of that day seem to come back, making his heart flutter and linger...

Mr. Vinh proudly said: “With all our heart and soul, I and the people of Nam O village always remind ourselves to lay solid bricks in terms of quality, ensuring the original state of the handicraft process to bring Nam O fish sauce far into the future. Perhaps, as if silently thanking the sweat and efforts of the fish sauce makers, Nam O fish sauce now has a place on the fish sauce making map of the whole country. That helps me and the villagers have the motivation to preserve the traditional craft of the village for generations. Furthermore, I and the villagers not only work hard with the profession but also with the sea, always have a great love because if there is no sea in our imagination, life will hardly be happy and complete. Therefore, we are aware of preserving the sea as well as everything related to the sea to be the most complete and beautiful”.

Now coming to Nam O fishing village, we can not only walk along the village road filled with the fragrant aroma of fish sauce and the sea, but also visit Nam O rocky cliffs with lush green moss fields or enjoy watching Nam O beach embraced by Hai Van mountain endlessly under the forests.

Like Mr. Vinh, fisherman Nguyen Dinh, Head of the Community Organization for Co-management of Aquatic Resources Protection (Tho Quang Ward, Son Tra District) soon understood the benefits of the sea, so he and the fishing community are always aware of preserving the sea for today and future generations. According to him, the sea creates heavy fishing trips and full nets to build a prosperous dream for all fishermen. Therefore, he and the fishing community promote the spirit of protecting resources as well as coastal, near-shore and offshore landscapes to attract domestic and international tourists to the city.

2. Talking about My Khe or Pham Van Dong beach, as a child born in a coastal area, my house is about ten minutes walk from the sea, in my memory, the sea of the past had no solid embankment, no sturdy fence, no high-rise buildings or crowded shops, only clusters of sea spinach, willows, familiar bamboo boats and a few rows of temporary houses of fishermen in the fishing village... Standing on the shore, I could see the sea as far as my eyes could see, but to touch the water, I had to walk through a dense row of willows, sometimes the wind blew fiercely, the waves crashed in all directions, feeling like I was lost in the deep forest. Passing this scene, the open sea appeared vast, like a dream world , with long stretches of white sand, clear blue water, and a distant horizon. Every time I went to the sea, I secretly painted naive dreams and aspirations. The sea was even an invisible friend for me to confide in about my daily difficulties. All these years have passed, now, standing in front of the sea, I still feel as small as ever and each vivid memory appears before my eyes so real, it's hard to describe with words.

Mr. Nguyen Xau (75 years old, Nai Hien Dong ward, Son Tra district), Head of the Thang Loi Solidarity Group, confided that for him, Pham Van Dong beach and other beaches not only left a series of beautiful memories but also created the shape and beauty of many fishing families. In silence, he is grateful to the sea because without the sea, his family and other fishermen would not know where to cling to. Proudly speaking, the sea brings great benefits not only in material life but also in spiritual life. The entire fishing community largely relies on the spiritual life from the sea to build the beautiful culture of the fishing village through fishing and peace praying festivals or the famous art of singing Ba Trao... This is extremely important to preserve the good traditional values of the sea in the face of urbanization.

“I still remember, in the past, the sea was deserted, with few tourists. Now, with just one step, anyone can encounter dozens of domestic and international tourists. That is a success that contributes to the economic development of people living along the coast thanks to trade and business. Therefore, in my mind, as well as every fisherman, people are wholeheartedly protecting the sea from the environmental landscape to exploiting seafood according to regulations. Only then can the sea be preserved for future generations,” Mr. Xau happily said.

3. Da Nang is favored by nature with the advantage of having its back against the mountain, facing the sea, and a river in the heart of the city. In particular, the sea makes the city's brand because it possesses a long, winding, undulating coastline. In particular, My Khe beach soon became famous worldwide when it was voted by Forbes, the leading economic magazine of the United States, as the most beautiful beach on the planet. In 2023, My Khe beach continued to rank 8th in the list of 10 most beautiful beaches in Asia voted by the travel review platform Tripadvisor. Thereby, My Khe beach is on par with beaches around the world such as: Railay (Thailand), Whitehaven, Queensland (Australia) Pensacola (USA), Kelingking (Indonesia) ...

The goal by 2030 is to build Da Nang into a major marine economic center of the country, an international marine urban area on the basis of strongly developing marine economic sectors; ensuring social security and environmental protection, sustainable development; proactively adapting to climate change, rising sea levels, preventing pollution, marine environmental degradation, coastal landslides and sea erosion, restoring and conserving important marine ecosystems. At the same time, new, advanced and modern scientific achievements become direct factors promoting sustainable development of the marine economy. Vision by 2045, Da Nang becomes a city with sustainable, prosperous, secure and safe marine economic development, contributing significantly to the sustainable development of the country's economy, proactively and responsibly participating in solving international issues related to the sea and ocean.

We believe that Da Nang beach will make a breakthrough in the future and its beaches will continue to be listed on the world map. And we have the right to dream of Da Nang soon becoming a key economic sea development city of the country in particular and the world in general.

"His entire fishing community largely relies on the spiritual life of the sea to build the beauty of the fishing village culture through the Cau Ngu and Cau An festivals or the famous art of singing Ba Trao...".
