On the evening of September 18, the engineering force of the Capital Command together with officers and soldiers of the Defense Cluster of Region 4 - Gia Lam, and the Military Command of Bo De Ward salvaged and handled two bomb tons left over from the war.
According to authorities, the two bombs discovered were M-118 demolition bombs, weighing more than 1,300 kg, measuring 220 cm in length and 65 cm in diameter, containing more than 800 kg of TNT. When discovered, the two bombs still had fuses and were assessed as highly dangerous.
Two bombs were discovered by fishermen at around 3:00 p.m. on September 15 near the middle of the Red River, about 10 km away. Long Bien Bridge about 30m upstream.
Immediately after receiving the news, the Defense Command of Region 4 - Gia Lam mobilized forces, coordinated with the Military Command of Bo De ward to move the two bombs to a safe location, organized close guard and reported to superiors to agree on handling measures.
According to plan, two bombs will be moved and detonated at Cam Son Shooting Range ( Bac Ninh ).
