Organize activities and models to create a multi-ethnic cultural space for students to experience. That is the model of 'Multicultural School with Community' of the Ethnic Boarding School, Secondary and High School of Bao Yen District, Lao Cai .
From the dedication of teachers
In the 2024-2025 school year, the school has 489 boarding students, most of whom are children of ethnic minorities such as Tay, Dao, Mong, and Xa Pho. Therefore, the movement activities are all related to the living and studying conditions and the abilities and strengths of the students.
Teacher Cao Thi Ha Yen (Dao ethnic group, born in 1982) has been with the school for more than 20 years. She is the head of the semi-professional team and is always creative, proposing models that are related to the school's characteristics. The highlight of these models is "Multicultural school associated with the community", focusing on the "For the community" Club.
"Most of the students are ethnic minorities. Their understanding of traditional culture is very advantageous for organizing special activities related to ethnic cultures," Ms. Ha Yen shared.
According to Ms. Ha Yen, thiseducational model is completely suitable and brings practical results to ethnic minority students.
In addition, to help students learn about ethnic culture, the school also built a "Community Activity House". This building is located behind the classrooms and the stadium, adjacent to the student dormitory.
Teacher Hoang Van Huy, vice principal of the school, said: "The school's community house will be completed in 2022, with a total area of two floors of about 800 square meters , designed in the traditional stilt house style of the Tay people, built of bricks with sturdy, tall pillars. This is a place for students to organize collective activities."
The space inside the "Community Activity House" is designed and decorated by the school with bold ethnic colors. These are corners and booths displaying artifacts and pictures that are traditional cultural products of ethnic groups collected, designed and introduced by teachers and students of the school. Typical examples include introducing the community tourism spot of Nghia Do commune, cuisine , costumes, items... of ethnic groups.
To create the activities and cultural colors of the "Community Activity House" is the contribution of teacher Cao Thi Ha Yen, art teacher Ma Thi Thao and teachers in the school's teaching staff.
Students are excited
Giang Khanh Ly (Giay ethnic group), a 9A student, shared: "When my teachers assigned me the task of collecting and displaying cultural artifacts at the boarding house, I was very excited and actively participated in the work.
We were assigned to groups of ethnic groups such as Tay, Dao, Mong, Nung, Giay... to facilitate the collection of artifacts in the places where we were born and raised. Making and displaying cultural products of ethnic groups is also a meaningful experience with my own pride."
In addition, every year, in addition to organizing the "Ethnic New Year" before the Lunar New Year holiday, the school also organizes the "Ethnic Cultural Festival" to create a useful playground and experience the traditional cultural space for students. Through this, ethnic minority students are proud, appreciate and conscious of preserving the traditional cultural values of their nation.
The unique feature of this program is that each year, the school chooses an ethnic group such as Tay, Mong, Dao, Nung, Xa Pho... to organize for students to learn and develop scripts to perform the traditional cultural forms of that ethnic group. Thanks to that, students of many different ethnic groups can immerse themselves in experiencing the culture of an ethnic group.
Classes without chalk or blackboard
At the ethnic cultural festival, students performed cultural costumes, musical instruments, folk songs, dances, cuisine, weddings, spiritual rituals, folk games... They vividly recreated the unique features in the traditional cultural identity of ethnic groups and developed necessary skills such as behavior, teamwork, presentation...
These are truly lessons without chalk or blackboard for students of Bao Yen District Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities, Secondary and High School.
* Mr. Dang Minh Khuong (Principal of Bao Yen District Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities, Secondary and High School):
To make students proud of their national cultural values
The model of "Community House" and "Ethnic Cultural Festival" at the Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities, Secondary and High School of Bao Yen District is a common home, a colorful cultural festival contributing to the education of ethnic minority students. Through that, students are always proud and appreciate the traditional cultural values of their ethnic group. Students are also aware of preserving and promoting the cultural identity of their homeland.
The success of this model is thanks to the dedication and constant creativity of the school's staff, teachers and employees. At the same time, the aspiration to rise from the cultural identity of students is the core factor that creates the connection and harmony of cultural identity in the school space.
