Opening up research avenues to international standards.

Recently, at the final round of the Smart Campus - 2025 competition for university students organized by the DNIIT International Institute of Technology ( Da Nang University) with the theme "Advanced Technology Serving a Green City," 12 teams participated, presenting numerous topics, ideas, solutions, and initiatives developed by students themselves using AI, IoT, Robotics applications, etc.

According to Professor Dr. Le Thanh Nhan, Director of the DNIIT Institute, when participating in the competition, lecturers from the DNIIT Institute and student groups received training and academic inspiration from scientists and experts from partner universities (France) in related fields and disciplines.

To improve the quality of scientific research topics and projects participating in major competitions, member universities of the University of Da Nang have also implemented many new solutions and models, such as inviting reputable experts and scientists from both within and outside the country to provide guidance and share research experiences with students; and organizing innovation clubs for students.

Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Le Hung, Rector of the University of Technical Education (Da Nang University), stated that in the 2025 academic year, the university achieved many accomplishments, especially in scientific research and innovation competitions; the number of international publications in prestigious journals continued to increase, while strengthening ties with domestic and foreign businesses.

This year, the school implemented 127 science and technology projects, including 1 national-level project and 6 ministerial-level projects; carried out tasks under Project 844 of the Ministry of Science and Technology, thereby forming a startup network and training the capacity of 20 project groups with 30 students; provided intellectual property consulting for 6 projects; and signed 12 new Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs)...

To support students and researchers interested in scientific research and publishing international papers, the University of Economics (Da Nang University) invited prestigious scholars from major universities to share their experiences on the topic of "Publishing International Papers and Research Methods". Professor Dayong Zhang from Southwest University of Finance and Economics (China) shared practical experiences with students on selecting research topics, building research frameworks, data access methods, and strategies for writing and submitting papers to reputable international scientific journals.

Investing in science in depth.

Huynh Bao Duyen, a student from the Accounting Department of the University of Economics, has won first prize in scientific research from the departmental level to the University of Da Nang level, along with second prize at the ministerial level; her research has been published in the international journal JFRA (Scopus Q1) and the Journal of Economic Research.

Huynh Bao Duyen said that she became interested in scientific research when she saw the research achievements of senior students and realized that each research problem could open up a new perspective. From there, Duyen was motivated to begin her journey of conquering knowledge.

According to Duyen, achieving good results in a scientific research project requires the collaboration of team members, supporting and leveraging each other's strengths; assigning appropriate tasks and ensuring implementation progress; and proactively connecting with lecturers to make timely adjustments to the project. In addition, participating in activities and expert sharing sessions provides valuable insights, offers more options for future direction, and contributes to improving the quality of student research projects.

According to a report by the Department of Science and International Cooperation (Da Nang University), international publications in the period 2021-2025 increased by 41.9%, averaging about 9.1% per year, and publication productivity increased by an average of 7.5% per year.

Specifically, in 2025, the University of Technology had the highest number of publications in the prestigious WoS/Scopus database, followed by the University of Education; the Vietnam-UK Research and Training Institute had the highest ratio of publications per lecturer.

Among them, the most notable highlights are the University of Education, which has grown in scale, productivity, and sustainability; the University of Technology, which has steadily increased in number and size; and the Vietnam-UK Research and Training Institute, which, despite its streamlined model, has also grown quite strongly.

Connecting with and inviting experts in scientific research, entrepreneurship, and technology to share their experiences helps inspire students in creative research. In the photo: Students present their projects at the Smart Campus competition. Photo: THU HA.

The number of scientific research projects in the 2023-2024 academic year increased significantly (mainly due to an increase in projects at the institutional level); in the 2024-2025 academic year, there was a considerable increase in state-level projects (approximately 40%). This result shows a shift from quantity to quality of research projects.

According to Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Vu, Director of Da Nang University, to promote scientific research activities, it is necessary to harmoniously combine basic, academic research to boost international publications with actively contributing to, building, and critically reviewing policies serving socio-economic development for the country, localities, and businesses.

Universities need to strengthen their collaboration in science, technology, and innovation, and promote the mobilization of resources from the State, organizations, and businesses through incubation and development policies to foster and enhance potential ideas, solutions, and products.

Each school or institution should establish a student entrepreneurship club, proactively connecting with and inviting experts in entrepreneurship and technology on a monthly basis to share experiences and inspire students to innovate and start businesses right from the classroom.
