From family traditions to civilized urban life

VHO - In many families and clans, seemingly simple acts such as promoting education, helping the needy, preserving family traditions, or reminding children and grandchildren to live responsibly are persistently maintained through many generations. Based on these values nurtured within each household, Da Nang hopes that the "Cultural Clan" movement will become an important foundation for spreading the spirit of solidarity, fostering a healthy living environment, and contributing to the formation of civilized communities rich in identity.

Starting from the traditional houses

In many rural areas of Quang Nam province in the past and now Da Nang city, ancestral temples are not only places where descendants return for ancestral commemorations and holidays, but also spaces for preserving family traditions, passing on the tradition of studiousness, and connecting generations within the clan. Over the years, the movement to build culturally rich clans has become a familiar activity, contributing to the cultivation of fundamental values from the family and community.

Prior to the merger, both Da Nang and Quang Nam maintained a systematic and in-depth movement to build culturally rich clans. Recognized clans had to meet specific criteria linked to the core values of community life. Many clans established scholarship funds to encourage their children's education, continuing the tradition of studiousness; while also promoting mutual support, helping each other develop economically , assisting those in difficult circumstances, and actively participating in local movements.

Building upon that foundation, the city's recently issued "Cultural Clan" Development Plan for the period 2026-2030 continues to place families and clans in a crucial position in building the spiritual life of the community. The plan aims to preserve the traditions of each clan, while simultaneously educating descendants to remember their roots, live with integrity and respect for family values, build a civilized lifestyle, and contribute to preserving the cultural beauty of rural areas amidst urbanization.

Through kinship ties and intergenerational bonds, positive values are spread more widely, contributing to strengthening community solidarity and building a civilized way of life.

The city aims to have at least 70% of clans establish clan regulations by 2030; specifically, in the plains and urban areas, at least 55% of clans will be recognized as "Cultural Clans". The evaluation criteria focus on encouraging descendants to comply with the Party and State's policies; promoting solidarity and mutual support for economic development; participating in building cultural life; developing self-governing models within clans; and promoting lifelong learning within families, clans, and communities.

More broadly, building a "Clan Culture" is a way to preserve a traditional institution that has long been intertwined with the lives of Vietnamese people, while simultaneously nurturing positive values rooted in the family to spread into contemporary society.

To allow culture to be present in daily life.

Building upon the traditions cultivated within each family and clan, Da Nang hopes to create a broader foundation for community development. Along with the "Cultural Clan" development plan, the City People's Committee has also issued a plan to implement the "All People Unite to Build a Culturally Rich Life" movement in 2026, aiming to create significant changes in building a civilized lifestyle, forming a humane, healthy, and modern living environment linked to socio-economic development, new rural development, and sustainable poverty reduction.

Notably, the city emphasizes the need for the development of the movement in a substantive manner, avoiding the pursuit of superficiality or achievements. Improving the quality of cultural titles must be linked to preserving and promoting national identity, while effectively mobilizing social resources to expand opportunities for people to enjoy culture.

The movement's contents are implemented in sync with the "Cultural Clan" development program for the 2026-2030 period. The city continues to promote civilized lifestyles in weddings, funerals, and festivals; strengthen the management and organization of festivals according to regulations; and promote digital transformation, building a database of traditional festivals in Da Nang to serve management, research, and promotion.

Over the years, cultural life in the city has undergone many positive changes, contributing to improving the spiritual life of the people. However, there is still a gap in access to and enjoyment of cultural activities between urban and rural areas, and between the plains and mountainous regions, including areas inhabited by ethnic minorities.

Based on these practical requirements, the plans to build "Cultural Tribes" and implement the "National Unity in Building a Culturally Rich Life" movement are expected to contribute to the concretization of Resolution No. 80-NQ/TW in the city. The goal is not only to build a living environment rich in cultural identity but also to promote the role of culture as an important endogenous resource for sustainable development.

By 2030, Da Nang aims to have over 90% of families, villages, and residential areas meet cultural standards; communes, wards, and special zones achieve comprehensive cultural development standards; and continue to expand the model of cultural clans. From households preserving family traditions to civilized residential areas, Da Nang hopes to cultivate a sustainable cultural foundation for the city's long-term development, where family values continue to be nurtured and spread throughout the community.
