Ninh Thanh Loi , a land once associated with dense reeds and rushes, flooded during the rainy season and severely dry during the dry season, with cracked soil . However, overcoming countless hardships, this land has now donned a "new look." Rows of modern houses, straight roads, bustling traffic, and the smooth flow of agricultural products are now common sights.

The current state of the area is largely due to the local government's efforts in facilitating the conversion of inefficient rice fields into integrated rice-shrimp and rice-shrimp-crab-fish rotation models. Since adopting the "shrimp embracing rice" model, the lives of farmers here have improved significantly. Many households have overcome difficulties and become relatively wealthy, earning hundreds of millions, even billions of dong annually.
Farmers in Ninh Thanh Loi commune visit their rice fields in the rice-shrimp rotation farming area.
As a result, people have the means to build spacious houses and purchase increasingly modern machinery and equipment for agricultural production. This, in turn, contributes to the socio -economic development of the locality and changes the face of the rural area.
Mr. Huynh Tan Tai (Chom Cao hamlet, Ninh Thanh Loi commune) shared: “Since applying the rice-shrimp rotation model, the economic conditions of the people have improved significantly. As a result, many policies and initiatives implemented by the local government have been enthusiastically embraced by the people, contributing to the transformation of the hamlet into the more modern and prosperous area it is today.”

Practical experience has shown that rice-shrimp farming is a production model with minimal negative impact on the surrounding environment, low risk, suitable for the capabilities of most farmers, and yields relatively high economic efficiency. When raising shrimp, the soil becomes more fertile, helping rice grow stronger and reducing the cost of fertilizers and pesticides.
In particular, after each shrimp harvest, the organic matter, microorganisms, and leftover shrimp feed are excellent nutrients for rice plants. Conversely, after the rice harvest, the soil is improved, creating a favorable environment for shrimp to grow quickly and experience fewer risks and diseases.
“This hamlet used to be almost entirely filled with thatched and corrugated iron houses; it was rare to find a brick house. But now, there are brick houses, and even villas. This shows that the economic life of the people of Ninh Thanh Loi has truly turned a new page and developed remarkably,” said Mr. Pham Van Khanh (Nha Lau 1 hamlet, Ninh Thanh Loi commune) excitedly.

Thanks to the development of diversified farming and livestock raising on the same production land, the lives of people in Ninh Thanh Loi commune are improving, and the poverty rate is gradually decreasing. Mr. Huynh Van Hoa, Secretary of the Party Committee of Ninh Thanh Loi commune, said: “In the future, the commune will focus on supporting people to develop strong economic models such as: combined rice-shrimp-crab-fish farming, weaving, etc., with particular attention to applying scientific advancements to production in a clean and safe manner, and finding partners to solve the problems of input and output for agricultural products for the people, helping them to produce with peace of mind.”
With the results achieved, we believe that the willpower, determination, and experience gained from hardship will be the driving force for the people of Ninh Thanh Loi to continue striving and writing more beautiful stories and bringing about changes to this once desolate land.
