On April 5-6, VinUni University in collaboration with Vinmec Healthcare System organized an international conference on 3D Technology Applications in Medicine. This advanced technology not only revolutionizes the anatomy of human body parts but also opens up opportunities for the development of personalized medicine with maximum accuracy, minimizing complications and costs for patients.
The conference took place over 2 days, including 3 parts: Scientific report, exhibition and training, attracting the attention and participation of more than 1,000 professors and specialized doctors.
At the scientific reporting session, the speakers presented many important reports, carefully selected, of practical significance, divided into many different thematic sessions: Orthopedic trauma, Dentistry, Cardiovascular, Engineering - materials...
In particular, the speakers updated the latest advances in 3D technology in Medicine. Accordingly, 3D technology is becoming increasingly essential when applied to create anatomical models of human body parts. Surgical positioning devices help doctors identify and clearly visualize the location of the lesion, thereby optimizing the surgical and treatment process.
The applied technology not only creates a revolution in the field of health care but also opens up opportunities for the development of personalized medicine, from the production of pills to performing surgeries tailored to each individual patient, ensuring surgical support with maximum precision and minimizing complications to the lowest level.

The Training Session at the Conference on 3D Technology Applications in Medicine was chaired by Chief Engineer Fanny Soh from Materialise (Belgium) - a leading corporation in 3D printing technology with the content on surgical planning (applicable to any medical specialty: Orthopedics, Dentistry, Neurology, Cardiology, Urology, etc.). Training participants will be granted a CME Continuing Education Certificate by VinUni University.
One of the highlights of the conference is the exhibition demonstrating 3D technology in medicine. The exhibition not only includes orthopedics but also digestive, cardiovascular, neurological fields..., AR and VR surgical simulation technology, virtual reality surgery experience booth for users, direct visit to 3D Lab...
At the event, Vinmec officially announced that it will deploy 3D technology in 100% of hospitals in the Vinmec Healthcare System by 2024.
Previously, since 2022, Vinmec has cooperated with the Center for 3D Technology in Medicine (VinUni University) to use 3D technology to successfully perform about 200 surgeries in the field of orthopedic trauma with an accuracy rate of joint size approaching 100%, including 84 total knee replacements, 31 total hip replacements, 27 cancer/bone dysplasia treatments and many complex joint replacement and orthopedic cases.

Professor, Doctor, Physician Tran Trung Dung delivered the opening speech. |
Professor, PhD, MD Tran Trung Dung, Director of the Center for 3D Technology in Medicine and Head of the Department of Orthopedics at VinUni, and Director of the Department of Orthopedics and Musculoskeletal Surgery, Vinmec Healthcare System, said that 3D printing technology in medicine brings miraculous values and impacts to patients, even beyond the current imagination of doctors.
Thanks to this technology, hospitals can use surgical instruments that fit Vietnamese anatomy at a cost much lower than imported products from the US or Europe.
"This International Conference on 3D Technology Applications in Medicine is an opportunity for Vietnamese doctors to learn more experience from the world's leading experts, expand research areas, and create a premise for widespread application in Vietnam in the future," said Professor Dung.
