The Lao Cai - Hanoi - Hai Phong - Quang Ninh railway was researched and planned for all sections and stations on the route, with the starting point being Lao Cai station (from the point connecting the rails with the Chinese railway), At the end is Ha Long station (belonging to the Kep - Ha Long railway) passing through 10 provinces/cities including: Lao Cai, Yen Bai, Phu Tho, Vinh Phuc, Hanoi, Bac Ninh, Hung Yen, Hai Duong, Hai Phong , Quang Ninh.
According to consultants, the East-West corridor has an extremely important position and role, being a gateway to trade with the world through major seaports in Hai Phong and Quang Ninh areas as well as connecting international transport routes. There are 41 stations on the entire route, of which 5 main train stations include: Lao Cai, Yen Thuong, Nam Hai Phong, Ha Long and Cai Lan.
Lao Cai Station is a station for passenger trains and freight trains throughout the Lao Cai - Hanoi - Hai Phong route and regional trains from Lao Cai - Hanoi; It is an international intermodal terminal with Hekou North Station of China Railway.
Yen Thuong Station is a station for passenger and freight trains in the Yen Thuong - Lao Cai and Yen Thuong - South Hai Phong sections. In addition, Yen Thuong station also functions as a Hanoi hub train station for Northern routes such as Hanoi - Lang Son, Hanoi - Thai Nguyen, Hanoi - Ha Long - Cai Lan.
Hai Phong South Station sets up passenger and freight trains throughout the route like Lai Cai Station, at the same time sets up section and freight passenger trains for the Hai Phong - Yen Thuong section and short section trains at South Hai Phong - Ha Long - Cai Lan.
Ha Long Station is the station for the short-distance passenger train Ha Long - Hai Phong; Cai Lan station sets up short-distance freight trains for the Hai Phong - Cai Lan section.
On the entire route, there are 27 train passing stations; 5 intermediate stations with passenger and cargo operations concentrated in provincial and city centers include: Yen Bai, Viet Tri, Vinh Phuc, Lac Dao, Hai Duong.
