According to L'Equipe , the French national team will receive an additional €3 million if they win the tournament in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. This is part of an agreement between the French Football Federation (FFF) and their shirt sponsor, Nike, which runs until 2034. Even if they finish as runners-up, France will still receive a €1 million bonus.
This performance-based bonus clause isn't new. At the 2018 World Cup , where France won their second world title, the FFF received €2 million from Nike. If they finished second, the amount was €500,000. Starting with the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, the bonus levels in the contract were adjusted upwards to the current amounts.
In addition to prize money from sponsors, the winner of the 2026 World Cup will also receive a bonus from FIFA, amounting to over 43 million euros. This figure was announced before the tournament began.
In addition to bonuses, the contract between the FFF and Nike also includes a penalty clause if the French national team fails to qualify for the World Cup. If this scenario occurs, the annual payment of approximately 50 million euros that Nike makes to the FFF will be reduced by 4 million euros. This is unprecedented for French football since 1994.
Currently, France is second in Group I with 3 points, level with Norway but behind on goal difference. The team will face Iraq in the early hours of June 23rd.
