The match consisted of three 30-minute halves. This arrangement allowed the coaching staff to assess the players' fitness and tactical adaptability. Coach Kim Sang-sik used almost the entire squad from both teams, constantly changing lineups to experiment with personnel and tactics.
In this match, the Vietnam U22 team surprisingly took the lead in the first half thanks to a goal from midfielder Le Van Thuan. The goal boosted the morale and confidence of the young Vietnamese players against their more experienced opponents.
However, in the second half, the Vietnamese team gradually regained control of the game and scored two consecutive goals. In the third half, neither the Vietnamese team nor the U22 team managed to score any more goals.
Although it was only a training match, the performance of both teams was closely monitored by the coaching staff. Coach Kim Sang-sik was cautious in experimenting with tactics, especially in how the midfield operated and how attacks were organized in a possession-based game.
The victory against the U22 team is an important stepping stone for the Vietnamese national team before the official match against Malaysia in the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers at Bukit Jalil Stadium on June 10th. With Cong Phuong withdrawing due to injury, the coaching staff will have more time to adjust personnel and experiment with attacking lines in the remaining training days.
According to the plan, the Vietnamese national team will have their final training session in Hanoi on the afternoon of June 5th. After that, on June 6th, the entire team will travel to Malaysia to prepare for the official match.
