On September 18, the Ministry of Education and Training announced that the country currently has approximately 94,000 lecturers. Of these, approximately 7% are professors and associate professors, 28% are PhDs, 58% are masters, the rest have bachelor degrees and other groups.
According to statistics, the proportion of lecturers with the title of professor and associate professor or with master's or doctoral degrees has increased steadily over the years. Meanwhile, the group of lecturers with only bachelor's degrees has decreased.
The Ministry of Education and Training explained: The granting of autonomy to public schools has created conditions for schools to develop a team of highly qualified lecturers. Schools give special priority to recruiting lecturers with PhDs, and at the same time send lecturers to study and train in advanced, high-quality programs at prestigious universities around the world.
In addition, the State also supports the improvement of the capacity of lecturers and managers to meet the requirements of fundamental and comprehensive innovation in education and training through approved projects such as 322, 599, 911 and currently Project 894.
Thanks to that, recently, the rate of lecturers with doctoral degrees at schools has increased.
"This shows that schools have been aware of improving the quality of lecturers and standardizing the qualifications of the teaching staff according to the provisions of the Law on Education and the Law on Higher Education," said the Ministry of Education and Training.
According to the standards for higher education institutions that will take effect from 2024, schools that do not offer doctoral training must have at least 20% of full-time lecturers with doctoral degrees, and from 2030, no less than 30%.
Doctoral training schools must have at least 40% of full-time faculty with doctoral degrees and from 2030 not less than 50%.
