On September 26, Mr. Tran Duy Binh, Vice Chairman of Kim Ngan Commune, said that a suspected food poisoning incident had just occurred in the area, causing 20 students to be hospitalized for emergency treatment.
Accordingly, at around 8:00 a.m. the same day, many students at Kim Thuy Primary Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities showed symptoms of vomiting and severe stomach pain after eating breakfast at school.
Although the children received first aid from school medical staff, their symptoms became more serious so the commune authorities decided to take them to the hospital.

“After receiving the information, we immediately gathered at the school, using all the staff vehicles to quickly take the children to Le Thuy District General Hospital for emergency treatment,” said Mr. Binh.
Mr. Le Van Duong, Chairman of Kim Ngan Commune, said that 25 children showed symptoms of poisoning, of which 20 children had signs of abdominal pain and diarrhea so they were taken to the emergency room, the remaining children were examined by the Station and Medical Center.
"Currently, the commune police force has come to the school to seal the kitchen, take food samples for testing and work with the school and kitchen," Mr. Duong informed.
Their breakfast is banh tay, a type of cake made from sticky rice flour and wrapped in banana leaves. Many students said some of the cakes smell bad.
Kim Thuy Primary Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities is located in a mountainous area. The school's students are mainly Van Kieu ethnic children and they have breakfast at school.
