The result meant that coach Okiyama Masahiko and his team missed out on a ticket to the 2026 U17 Women's World Cup. According to the regulations, only the four teams that reach the semi-finals are eligible to participate in the biggest women's football tournament on the planet at the end of the year.

Entering the decisive match, the Vietnamese U17 women's team started with determination but quickly came under immense pressure from their opponents, who possessed superior physical fitness and speed. In the opening minutes, goalkeeper Cam My had to work hard to fend off the relentless attacks from the Australian team.

After several attempts to defend, the Southeast Asian representatives could not hold their ground. In the 28th minute, Kaya Jugovic's shot forced Cam My to make a save, but Frideriki Karaberis was quick to pounce on the rebound to open the scoring for Australia. Just 3 minutes later, Leyla Hussein took advantage of the space in the penalty area to double the lead.

Despite being 2 goals down, the girls in red showed commendable fighting spirit. Minh Ánh had a golden opportunity in the 42nd minute when she broke through to face the opposing goalkeeper, but her shot was cleared off the line by an Australian defender. In the second half, the Vietnam U17 women's team made an effort to push forward, pressing aggressively and creating several notable attacking opportunities.

Minh Ánh continued to be a bright spot in attack with a shot that went over the crossbar in the 58th minute, while Phương Thảo provided dynamism with her bursts of speed down the right wing. However, against Australia's tightly organized defense, the young Vietnamese team could not find a goal to reduce the deficit.

The 0-2 defeat ended the World Cup dream of the Vietnamese U17 women's team, but their journey in the tournament still left many positive signs. The young players showed progress in their playing style, fighting spirit, and ability to compete against top opponents in the continent.
