The Vietnam U19 team got off to a good start at the 2026 Southeast Asian U19 Championship, easily defeating Timor Leste U19 3-0. However, this was a match where coach Yutaka Ikeuchi still had some things he wasn't entirely satisfied with regarding his players' performance. During training sessions in preparation for their second match in Group A against Myanmar U19, the Japanese coach instructed the players to focus on improving their tactics, including practicing short passing combinations, quick transitions, and enhancing their efficiency in set-piece situations.
In their opening match, the Myanmar U19 team lost 0-3 to the host team, Indonesia U19. However, Indonesia is a formidable opponent, playing very well with high speed, technical skill, and explosive players. Myanmar U19 only lost due to individual mistakes, and they are perfectly capable of playing better in their second match.
Therefore, coach Ikeuchi actively had his players practice 5-on-5 drills, counter-attack defense drills, and half-field attacks. This not only helped the players maintain their momentum after the opening victory but also helped them maintain the necessary focus to achieve their goal of securing all three points in the match against Myanmar.
