During the summer tourist season

(GLO) - As soon as summer arrives, the tourism season in Gia Lai kicks off with many diverse programs, offering relaxation, family bonding, and opportunities for learning and exploration.

Beach tourism and sports tourism are dominating the scene.

“Most individuals and organizations choose beach tourism ; out of 10 tours, 9 are beach tours, mainly to Nha Trang and Da Nang. Since the beginning of summer, our company has had dozens of buses going to the beach, the vast majority being group tours,” said Mr. Le Chi Nguyen, Director of Tay Nguyen Xanh Tourism Co., Ltd. (119 Wu Street, Pleiku City). According to Mr. Nguyen, the company's group tours mainly come from schools, agencies, and organizations with a need for relaxation and team spirit bonding.

Having just returned from Phu Yen after a 2-day, 1-night trip with the teachers of Nguyen Ba Ngoc Primary School (Thong Nhat Ward, Pleiku City), Ms. Nguyen Thi Huong said: The group consisted of about 40 people, including teachers and their relatives who registered to go along. The trip's costs were partially covered by the Trade Union Fund, with the rest contributed by the members.

Famous destinations like Ganh Da Dia, Nhan Tower, Dien Cape, and Nua Island were not first-time visits, but the group atmosphere still made the trip very memorable thanks to the fun, unity, and camaraderie. Ms. Huong added that her family members also plan to organize a summer trip to Da Nang in early July.

Speaking with a reporter, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy Trang, Director of Dai Ngan Tourism and Event Services Co., Ltd. (207 Hoang Quoc Viet Street, Pleiku City), said: Along with the trend of spontaneous tourism, many individuals and organizations are shifting towards buying tours because of the conveniences such as all-inclusive transportation and accommodation, no need to worry about the destination, and tour insurance included, all at a relatively affordable cost.

“For example, a 3-day, 2-night tour to Nha Trang, staying in a 4-star hotel, costs an average of 3.2 million VND per person. Some tourists worry that going on a tour will restrict their time, but in reality, the itinerary is not rigid and can be changed according to the needs of the whole group,” Ms. Trang explained.

As running gradually becomes a popular sport among many people, sports tourism is also a preferred type of tourism, especially during the summer. Many families register to participate in running races while also experiencing a memorable vacation.

Ms. Pham Thi Minh Hieu, a member of the Gia Lai Marathon Club, shared: From June 6th to 8th, she and her son, Le Nam Phong, participated in the Da Lat Music Night Run held in Da Lat City (Lam Dong province). This is a unique sports and music event. Runners could run around Xuan Huong Lake while enjoying vibrant music, providing a truly memorable experience.

Ms. Hieu stated her plan: After her son completes the 5km race and she finishes the 21km race, she will arrange to take him to visit Cu Lan Village, located at the foot of Langbiang Mountain (Lac Duong District, Lam Dong Province), so that he can immerse himself in nature and learn about the local culture. "Being able to participate in a sport I love while also taking my son on a summer vacation, I think sports tourism is a great option," Ms. Hieu said.

Mr. Vu Dinh Huan, a teacher at Kpa Klong Secondary School (Ha Bau commune, Dak Doa district), also said: On June 15th, he and his wife will participate in the VnExpress Marathon Quy Nhon 2025, combining it with a trip for their two children because the children love the beach.

"Wherever there's a running race, I prioritize it over other places. For example, in the summer of 2023, my whole family chose to travel to Nha Trang to participate in a race held there," Huấn recounted.

Besides domestic travel, some companies also choose overseas tours as a well-deserved reward for their employees during the summer.

Ms. Tran Thi Thao Ngan, Deputy Director of MBBank Gia Lai, informed: Since the beginning of summer, the unit has organized a total of 3 domestic and international tours for managers and employees. She herself participated in a 5-day trip to China, visiting famous destinations such as Shanghai, Wuzhen, and Hangzhou.

Ms. Ngan said: "This is an annual benefit program of the Bank, helping people relax and recharge after a year of hard work and pressure, thereby working more efficiently and staying with the company longer."

While many regions across the country are struggling under the sweltering summer heat, Gia Lai offers a contrasting option: a cool climate, pristine nature, and diverse terrain, ideal for outdoor activities. Therefore, Gia Lai attracts a significant number of tourists, even though the peak tourist season coincides with the highland rainy season.

Many tourists from hot and humid climates such as Ho Chi Minh City, Central Vietnam, or the Northern Delta express their delight at experiencing nature amidst the cool, peaceful weather of Pleiku and its surrounding areas.

Mr. Nguyen Huu Do (a tourist from Thai Binh province) enthusiastically shared: “Previously, I had visited the Central Highlands a few times on business trips and was very impressed with the cool atmosphere in the middle of summer. Everywhere I went, I saw the vibrant green of trees and mountains. Now that I've retired, I have the opportunity to return, and that feeling remains unchanged.”

My wife and I participated in a 5-day, 4-night tour through the provinces of Kon Tum, Gia Lai, and Dak Lak. Everyone enjoyed the pleasant climate, delicious food, and magnificent scenery; even just sitting in the car and admiring the views was delightful. It truly felt like a relaxing vacation in the heart of the mountains.”

Not only appealing to adults, summer in Gia Lai is also a vibrant season for children's tours. Thanks to its diverse landscape with lush green forests, high mountains, and majestic waterfalls, it becomes a "natural playground" that helps children improve their physical fitness, explore nature, and develop life skills.

As a company specializing in exploration and experiential tours, Discovery Gia Lai Co., Ltd. is currently welcoming a large number of summer tourists, especially families and students. Recently, the company organized an experiential trip for a group of 12 young students from Hanoi.

The students were guided to learn about the culture at community tourism villages in Gia Lai and Kon Tum before embarking on their journey to conquer K50 Waterfall (Kbang district). Immediately afterwards, the entire group continued the challenge of climbing Chu Nam peak (Chu Pah district), which is 1,472 meters above sea level.

These challenging yet intimate experiences not only bring joy but also help children develop willpower, teamwork skills, and a connection with nature—things that are difficult to achieve on typical vacations.

Mr. Tran Van Tuan, representative of Discovery Gia Lai Company, said: “Summer camp tours combined with life skills training are a unique product of our company every summer. This type of tourism is both educational and exciting for children. More and more parents, instead of choosing a relaxing vacation, are taking their children to experience nature so that they can gain valuable practical lessons.”

In June, the unit continued to welcome several groups of visitors from Ho Chi Minh City and some neighboring provinces, mainly families bringing their children to Gia Lai to trek through forests and waterfalls, and explore national parks and nature reserves.

Mr. Cao Huyen Tuan Anh, owner of Tien Son Pleiku homestay, said: "The occupancy rate at homestays during the summer is always high, and at times, rooms are fully booked. This shows that summer is definitely not a low season for tourism in Gia Lai."

According to Mr. Tuan Anh, most tourists visiting Gia Lai currently travel independently, not through travel agencies, especially those from the northern provinces. They often choose to travel in groups of family or friends, combining their trip with exploring the Central Highlands provinces, including Gia Lai.

"If there were more attractive summer tourism products, along with more professional services, I believe Gia Lai would gradually assert its own unique appeal and rise strongly on the Vietnamese tourism map," commented the owner of Tien Son homestay in Pleiku.
