| The daily meals provided to war veterans and their relatives at the Thai Nguyen Provincial Center for the Care of War Veterans are always of high quality. |
Following the wars of resistance to defend the Fatherland, protect the borders and islands, and fulfill international duties, Thai Nguyen province has nearly 13,000 martyrs; more than 11,300 wounded soldiers, sick soldiers, and those receiving benefits similar to wounded soldiers; 689 Vietnamese Heroic Mothers; 9 Heroes of the People's Armed Forces; and more than 111,200 people who were awarded Resistance War Medals and received one-time preferential treatment.
In order to improve the quality of care for people with disabilities and contribute to ensuring social security in the new situation, all levels and sectors in the province have implemented many synchronized solutions. Emphasis has been placed on disseminating and thoroughly understanding policies and guidelines, thereby raising awareness and responsibility among officials, Party members, and the people regarding the care for people with disabilities.
Over the past four years, the province has organized 39 training courses on policies and regulations for people with disabilities and new regulations related to this field, with more than 3,900 officials directly involved in people with disabilities at all levels participating (data from Thai Nguyen province and the former Bac Kan province combined). In 2025 alone, the province will organize 6 training courses, attracting more than 700 participants.
The timely updating and dissemination of new policies has contributed to improving the quality of resolving entitlements and policies for people with disabilities, ensuring that benefits reach the right people, the right beneficiaries, and comply with regulations. This is also an important basis for localities to better carry out the work of caring for and supporting people with disabilities in their areas.
Although the war veterans and their families have never demanded any compensation, everyone understands that countless people sacrificed their youth, blood, and lives on the battlefield to achieve the peace the country enjoys today.
Mrs. Trinh Thi Hong, residing in Nha Tho hamlet, Dai Phuc commune, the wife of martyr Le Quang Lien, emotionally shared: "My husband did not return, but during the most difficult times, my children and I always received the care and assistance of our neighbors, the Party, and the State to stabilize our lives."
Those simple words encapsulate the silent sacrifices of those left behind. Not only Mrs. Hong's family, but thousands of families receiving government assistance throughout the province have been receiving profound attention from all levels of government, relevant agencies, and the community through many practical activities.
Meanwhile, Mrs. Nguyen Thi Tuc, 83 years old, a Party member for 53 years, and a person who contributed to the revolution, currently living at the Social Welfare and Protection Center of Thai Nguyen province, said: "Due to special circumstances, I have been living at the Center for the past 5 years. Here, I receive thorough health and mental care; the nutrition is ensured, and the medicine is readily available, so my health has improved significantly."

Through "Gratitude and Repayment" activities, war invalids and their families receive timely care and encouragement, both materially and spiritually, contributing to the stability and improvement of their living standards.
War invalid Nguyen Duy Se, residing in Phac Trang village, Phong Quang commune, shared: "The policies and regulations for families of war heroes and their relatives are always fully implemented by the local government. I always encourage myself to overcome difficulties so that my family can have a more stable life."
Meanwhile, war invalid Trieu Van Luong, from Na Tang village, Nghia Ta commune, confided: "Being alive and returning to my family is a great blessing compared to many of my comrades. Right here in Nghia Ta commune, there are nearly 50 families of policy beneficiaries and people who have rendered meritorious service."
Physical pain is hidden deep within, but each wounded soldier, sick soldier, and victim of Agent Orange motivates themselves to overcome adversity. Mr. Hoang Van Doan, from Ban Lai village, Con Minh commune, who was exposed to chemical toxins, shared: "Every time the weather changes, my body aches all over, but I still try to endure it. The pain caused by chemical toxins is invisible, but it always lingers in my bones and marrow."
After the war against the US for national liberation, Thai Nguyen province had more than 15,400 victims of Agent Orange. To alleviate the suffering of these victims and their families, the relevant authorities and agencies in the province have actively implemented programs to show gratitude and appreciation.
Besides state subsidies, the Gratitude Fund at all levels receives billions of dong annually to support the care of war veterans and their families, such as visiting and giving gifts; assisting those facing sudden difficulties; providing housing support and capital for family economic development.
To date, most communes and wards in the province have been recognized for effectively implementing policies related to war invalids, martyrs, and people with meritorious services; 100% of families of people with meritorious services have a living standard equal to or higher than the average living standard of the people in their residential area.
People with disabilities and their relatives receive gifts from the Party and the State on holidays and Tet (Lunar New Year). On average, about 7,500 people with disabilities and their relatives in the province receive health care and rehabilitation annually.
The preferential policies and guidelines of the Party and State for war veterans and their families have been fully and promptly implemented; the attention of the community and practical actions demonstrating the principle of "drinking water, remembering the source" have further motivated those who have experienced war to have more strength to rise in life, continue to promote revolutionary qualities, be pioneers and role models in patriotic emulation movements, and contribute to building a more prosperous, beautiful, and civilized homeland.
