Keep the city green.

In the early days of summer, the green of newly planted trees is gradually becoming visible on many streets, residential areas, and public spaces in the city. Behind these green spaces is the contribution of many environmentally conscious organizations and individuals, including members of the Hai Phong Green Environment Volunteer Club.

Currently, the club has over 30 permanent members along with many volunteers participating in various programs. The members come from diverse professions but share a common desire to contribute to environmental protection and carry out practical activities for the community. Planting trees is one of the activities the club regularly maintains.

Since the beginning of 2026, the club has coordinated with various units and localities to organize three large-scale programs, planting nearly 1,300 trees in the city. These include planting over 200 trees at the beginning of the Year of the Horse in Thuy Nguyen ward, nearly 600 trees in Vinh Thinh commune, and activities in response to World Environment Day (June 5th) in Do Son ward.

Specifically, on April 18, 2026, the club, in coordination with the Farmers' Association and the Youth Union of Kien An ward, organized the planting of 350 trumpet trees, 23 crape myrtle trees, and 10 Terminalia catappa trees at Thien Van Hill, Nam Son Flower Garden, Nhi Duc Kindergarten, and Edison High School.

Exciting Children's Reading Festival Summer 2026
Exciting Children's Reading Festival Summer 2026The Children's Summer Reading Festival has become an annual event aimed at creating a reading culture and providing children with a beneficial and healthy playground during their summer vacation.

From early morning, more than 100 members, youth union members, armed forces personnel, and volunteers joined hands to dig holes, transport trees, and water them. The atmosphere of enthusiastic and responsible work created a meaningful day of activity, contributing to beautifying the urban landscape and raising environmental awareness in the community.

Mr. Pham Van Luan, Chairman of the Hai Phong Green Environment Volunteer Club, said: “We don't expect just a few programs to immediately change community awareness. However, every tree planted, every road repaired, or every bag of trash collected contributes to positive changes. More importantly, when people, especially young people, directly participate, awareness of environmental protection and responsibility to the community will gradually be formed and spread.”

Besides contributing to environmental protection, the Hai Phong Green Environment Volunteer Club also maintains many social welfare activities aimed at helping those in difficult circumstances. Members regularly visit and give gifts to elderly people living alone and people with disabilities, while also mobilizing resources to care for disadvantaged households in the city. During the Lunar New Year of 2026, more than 30 gift packages were given to needy families. On International Women's Day (March 8th), 50 gift packages were directly given to female sanitation workers, expressing gratitude to those who silently maintain the city's beauty.

The spirit of volunteerism is also demonstrated through practical actions serving the people's lives. At the end of May 2026, the club, in coordination with the local government of Residential Area 8 (An Bien Ward), repaired a 200-meter section of road in Alley 613, Thien Loi Street. From the cost of materials and machinery to the labor, all expenses were covered by voluntary contributions from the members. The completed project not only made travel more convenient and safer for residents but also received recognition from the government and the approval and support of the people.

In addition, the club maintains activities such as picking up trash, promoting environmental protection, encouraging people to reduce plastic waste, and participating in blood donation. A prime example is Mr. Pham Van Luan, the club's chairman, who has donated blood 40 times and was honored as one of the top 100 outstanding volunteer blood donors nationwide in 2026.

According to Mr. Pham Van Luan, the biggest challenge currently is the limited resources while the actual needs are very great. However, with a spirit of volunteerism and the joint efforts of philanthropists, the club always strives to maintain regular and consistent activities. "Hai Phong city won't become greener thanks to a few big projects, but from the collective efforts of many people with small, practical actions every day," Mr. Luan said.

According to Ms. Bui Thi Phuong Anh, Vice Chairwoman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee and Secretary of the Kien An Ward Youth Union, the Hai Phong Green Environment Volunteer Club is an active partner with the locality in many environmental protection activities. The programs implemented by the club not only bring practical results but also contribute to spreading a sense of responsibility, attracting union members, young people, and citizens to join hands in building a green, clean, and beautiful living environment.
