In recent years, cashless payments have gradually become a habit in the daily lives of people, from urban to rural areas. With just a smartphone connected to the internet, a banking app or e-wallet installed, and linked to a bank account, people can easily perform many transactions without using cash. From transferring and receiving money, paying utility bills, tuition fees, medical expenses, insurance, and telecommunications charges to buying plane tickets, bus tickets, movie tickets, paying bills at supermarkets, convenience stores, or e-commerce platforms… all can be done quickly with just a few taps on their phone.
Previously, every month, Mr. Le Nhat Minh, residing in Long Xuyen ward, had to go to the electricity and water bill payment point to pay with cash. He often had to wait quite a long time due to the large number of people. Now, simply by receiving notifications on his phone, he can pay these bills anytime, anywhere through his banking app. Similarly, Ms. Tran Thi Bao Chau, residing in Chau Doc ward, frequently uses QR code scanning when shopping. “For about a year now, I mainly pay using QR codes, e-wallets, or other digital banking services. Thanks to this, I don't need to carry a lot of cash with me,” Ms. Chau shared.
For Ms. Vo Thi Lua, a resident of Binh Duc ward, paying with ATM cards or bank transfers has become a habit. After selecting goods at the supermarket, she simply hands her card to the cashier or scans the code to complete the transaction. “Now I only use cash when going to traditional markets. When shopping at supermarkets or stores, I always pay by card or bank transfer because it’s both convenient and safe,” Ms. Lua said.
Beyond simply transferring money or checking account balances, digital banking applications, e-wallets, and QR payment systems now integrate a variety of convenient features such as bill payments, online shopping, booking movie tickets, airline tickets, and tour packages. Ms. Le Thi Thuy Duong, a resident of Rach Gia ward, said: “Nowadays, thanks to digital banking applications and e-wallets, I can easily and quickly pay my electricity, water, and internet bills, shop at supermarkets, or place online orders.”
Cashless payments also help businesses, shops, and enterprises save time and reduce risks in managing cash. Ms. Nguyen Thi Cam Tu, a rice trader in Long Xuyen ward, said: “Besides receiving cash, I encourage customers to transfer money. Payment via bank account helps me avoid worrying about counterfeit or torn bills, and also saves time counting when customers buy large quantities.”
Cashless payments are being actively implemented at healthcare facilities throughout the province, contributing to improved service quality for the public. Bringing her child for a check-up at An Giang General Hospital, Ms. Nguyen Thi Truc Dao, residing in Chau Phu commune, said: “After receiving information on the cost of examination and treatment, I just need to transfer money via phone instead of queuing like before.” Ms. Dao said. Ms. Tran Thi Hoa, residing in Phu Hoa commune, also highly appreciated the convenience this payment method brings: “Before, I often carried a lot of cash when going for check-ups, and once I even lost some money. Now, with just a smartphone and a QR code scan, I can pay quickly and safely.”
The increasing number of people choosing cashless payment methods not only contributes to changing consumer habits but also promotes digital transformation in many fields, aiming towards building a digital government, digital economy , and digital citizens in the future.
