Canada made history by winning their first-ever World Cup knockout match, thanks to a golden goal from Stephen Eustaquio in injury time.
Against a disciplined and determined South Africa side, the co-hosts controlled the game for most of the time (despite not having much possession), creating numerous opportunities but repeatedly thwarting goalkeeper Ronwen Williams and the opposing defense.
The introduction of Alphonso Davies in the second half increased the pressure on Canada, before Eustaquio sealed the victory with a spectacular strike from outside the box.
South Africa fought valiantly in their first World Cup knockout appearance, but couldn't withstand the pressure that lasted until the very last seconds.
The 1-0 victory propelled Canada into the Round of 16 of the 2026 World Cup, and further reinforced the belief that coach Jesse Marsch's team is capable of causing an upset against the Netherlands or Morocco in Houston on July 4th (local time).
Goal: Eustaquio 90'+2.
