(CTO) - In mid-May, crowds of people flocked to visit the Ho Chi Minh Memorial Temple in Long Duc (Long Duc Ward, Vinh Long Province) on the occasion of his birthday. Each fragrant incense stick, each offering of local cakes and fruits, presented with heartfelt reverence, is a beautiful testament to the affection of the people of the Mekong Delta and the entire country for President Ho Chi Minh.

The Ho Chi Minh Memorial Temple is located in Vinh Hoi hamlet, Long Duc commune, Tra Vinh city, Tra Vinh province (formerly), now in Vinh Hoi hamlet, Long Duc ward, Vinh Long province.

In early September 1969, upon hearing the news of President Ho Chi Minh's passing amidst the fierce fighting against the invaders, people of all ethnic groups in Vinh Long province organized a memorial service for him with overwhelming grief, and together resolved to "transform sorrow into revolutionary action."

Responding to the aspirations of local officials, Party members, and people for a solemn place to worship President Ho Chi Minh, the Party Committee of the former Tra Vinh town decided to build a temple dedicated to President Ho Chi Minh in Vinh Hoi hamlet. This was a disputed area between our forces and the enemy, only 4 kilometers from the enemy's headquarters and about 1.5 kilometers from a modern, fortified American military base, which even had an airfield with all kinds of fighter jets.

However, with political determination and boundless love and respect for Uncle Ho, the temple's construction began on March 10, 1970, and was inaugurated on New Year's Eve of the Year of the Pig, January 26, 1971. On March 10, 1971, the enemy launched multiple waves of attacks with aircraft, warships, and artillery against the temple area, burning it down.

After the temple was burned down, the people and soldiers of Long Duc commune fought and rebuilt it simultaneously. In the spring of 1972, the second reconstruction of the temple was completed. On the afternoon of April 29, 1975, in a frenzy over their disastrous defeat on the Southern battlefield, the enemy bombed the temple, damaging a corner of it.

Immediately after the reunification of the country, with the land united as one, in accordance with the wishes of the people, the Ho Chi Minh Memorial Temple in Long Duc was restored and renovated.

The Ho Chi Minh Memorial Temple was recognized as a national historical and cultural relic by the Ministry of Culture (now the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism) in 1989. Currently, after many renovations, restorations, and upgrades, the Ho Chi Minh Memorial Temple in Long Duc is very spacious, solemn, and surrounded by lush greenery.

The National Historical and Cultural Monument of Ho Chi Minh Memorial Temple in Long Duc is a shining symbol of patriotism, unwavering will, and the steadfast affection of the people and soldiers of the Southwestern region of Vietnam for the beloved President Ho Chi Minh. Despite enduring the ravages of war and numerous restorations and renovations, this place remains a sacred "red address," reminding present and future generations of President Ho Chi Minh's immense contributions and the indomitable revolutionary tradition of our nation.
