Within the framework of the 16th ASEAN Ministers of Information Conference (AMRI 16) taking place in Da Nang City, Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Manh Hung received Ms. Puangpet Chunlaiad, Minister of the Thai Prime Minister's Office.

At the next meeting, Minister Nguyen Manh Hung and Ms. Puangpet Chunlaiad shared about the fields of communication, journalism, digital transformation, and anti-fake news; wishes to promote communication between the two countries.

The two ministers proposed that in the coming time, Vietnam and Thailand need to have more television reports to promote each other's cultural and historical images. Along with that, share experiences on preventing and combating fake news.

Both countries believe that the people are the most important subject in this "war". Every citizen needs to be aware of fake and real information when receiving it.

Both countries prioritize strengthening content management on the broadcasting system and social networks, promoting the handling of fake news and toxic bad news, and building a healthy and safe cyberspace.

Minister Nguyen Manh Hung further informed that Vietnam is in the process of developing regulations on handling fake information in cyberspace. Along with that, Vietnam focuses on digital technology to classify news in cyberspace, from digital technology to knowing which news is positive or negative; At the same time, we want Vietnam and Thailand to do the same ASEAN have a common voice to fight fake news more effectively.

“ASEAN countries speaking with one voice will be much better. If we can handle fake news on cross-border platforms, we will handle more than 90% of fake news," the Minister shared.

Regarding the issue of combating fake news, in the series of events of the 16th AMRI Conference, on September 19, the ASEAN Forum on responding to and handling false information in cyberspace took place.

At the forum, ASEAN delegates shared that the widespread spread of fake news on the Internet and social networks is one of the most urgent problems facing governments around the world today. Fake news and inaccurate information have affected the economy and politics.

Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Thanh Lam said that from 2017 up to now, ASEAN has conducted many activities to increase awareness of dealing with the harmful effects of fake news... However, the activities mainly focus on sharing policies and experiences between management agencies. It is time for us to promote greater cooperation between media management agencies, who play an important role in enhancing information; between media agencies involved in spreading official and accurate information, detecting, publishing and correcting fake news; between research bodies such as independent research organizations, verification organizations and social media providers to respond to misinformation in the region.
