Heartwarming and affectionate moments between union members, young people, and Vietnamese Heroic Mothers.
Since January 1st, 2016, Long An Newspaper (now Long An Newspaper and Radio and Television Station ) has been providing care and support to Heroic Vietnamese Mother Le Thi Hanh (Phuoc Lai commune, Can Giuoc district) as a profound act of gratitude. Implementing the "Filial Son/Daughter" model , on holidays and Tet (Lunar New Year), members of the Youth Union visit, clean the house, and chat with the mother as if she were a member of the family.
Having endured two protracted wars of resistance, Mother Le Thi Hanh (born in 1930) witnessed and suffered irreplaceable losses. Her husband, Mr. Nguyen Hoang Le, and her daughter, Ms. Nguyen Thi Dinh, both bravely sacrificed their lives in the resistance against the US, saving the nation. Each emotional wound was a struggle for her, as her unwavering will and patriotic spirit never faded in the heart of this Heroic Vietnamese Mother.
As time passed, memories may fade, but the image of her daughter leaving to "avenge her father" remains vivid in her mother's mind. Hanh's mother said, "She asked to go to avenge her father, so I had no choice but to let her go. When I heard she had died, I was so sad, it felt like my heart was being torn apart."
Despite the loss, my mother suppressed her grief, toiled in the fields to raise her children, and silently sheltered revolutionary activists. Hardship could not break the will of this steadfast Vietnamese woman. Now, she lives a peaceful and simple life.
In her small house, dedicated to her husband and son, she became a shining example of sacrifice for the younger generation to follow. Life around her has changed; the dirt roads of the past are now paved, houses are spacious, and people live in peace and prosperity—all of which warms her heart.
In particular, the care and sharing from the youth union members today is a precious spiritual gift, somewhat alleviating the losses that the Heroic Vietnamese Mothers have experienced. And above all, it is a sincere reminder: Today's peace is the result of the blood, tears, and boundless love of these silent yet great mothers.
Vo Ngoc Khang Nam, Secretary of the Youth Union branch of Long An Newspaper and Radio and Television Station, said: “Through the ‘Filial Son/Daughter’ model, the Youth Union branch hopes to contribute to writing the beautiful chapters of the tradition of ‘Drinking water, remembering the source.’ These actions, though small, are full of meaning and will help nurture, spread, and continue gratitude in a compassionate society.”
In the gentle eyes and benevolent smile of Mrs. Le Thi Hanh, there is a deep sense of pride in her husband and son who sacrificed their lives for the independence and freedom of the Fatherland. Although time may fade her memories, her patriotism and unwavering spirit remain a source of inspiration and motivation for today's generations.
