Vietjet resumes flights to Con Dao after nearly a month of suspension - Photo: VJ
According to the plan, from November 25th, Vietjet will resume operations on the Hanoi - Con Dao and Ho Chi Minh City - Con Dao routes, with one round-trip flight per day on each route.
Previously, the airline had started direct flights to Con Dao Island in April 2025, but had to suspend operations in mid-October 2025. This disruption forced passengers from the North to connect via Ho Chi Minh City or Can Tho before flying on to the island.
Airlines and many customers believe that Vietjet's return to this specialized route provides passengers with more options, shortens travel time, and optimizes costs, especially in the context of Bamboo Airways' withdrawal from the Con Dao route, leaving a large gap in transport capacity.
Currently, Vietnam Airlines operates direct flights to Con Dao from Ho Chi Minh City and Can Tho, using ATR-72 aircraft operated by VASCO (a subsidiary of Vietnam Airlines).
Con Dao Airport currently only accommodates small jet aircraft due to runway limitations. The Comac ARJ21 is a comparable aircraft to the ATR-72 or Embraer E190.
This is China's first regional jet, operating since 2016. Vietjet has not yet announced which type of aircraft it will use after resuming flights to Con Dao, but according to several sources, it is likely that the airline will continue to use Comac aircraft.
