VTV announced on June 2nd that the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism had granted a license to Vietnam Television to produce a Sports channel (VTV6). According to the license, the Sports channel aims to disseminate information and promote the Party's guidelines and policies, as well as the State's laws and regulations in the field of physical education and sports; and to promote the development of mass sports, school sports, and professional sports.
The channel also aims to inspire and encourage physical training and regular exercise, promote a healthy and positive lifestyle, and contribute to protecting, caring for, and improving the health of the people, as well as the holistic development of Vietnamese people.
According to the introduction, VTV6 is envisioned as an "equal channel" for all sports and forms of physical activity. It will not only focus on top-tier tournaments or professional sports stars, but will also pay special attention to grassroots sports, school sports, community sports activities, and traditional local sports.
Familiar scenes such as traditional wrestling, boat races, village festivals, and mass sports events will have the opportunity to appear regularly on national television. In addition to competition programs and professional news, VTV6 will also develop content providing training guidance, nutritional advice, health care, and disseminating scientific knowledge about exercise for all audiences.
The channel uses the Vietnamese language, serves all segments of the population, and broadcasts continuously from 0:00 to 24:00 daily, for a total of 24 hours a day.
Thus, after nearly four years of absence, VTV6 will officially return with a completely new look, becoming the National Sports Channel of Vietnam. The channel's relaunch coincides with the upcoming World Cup in Canada, Mexico, and the United States. Vietnam Television holds the broadcasting rights for this event.
According to information from Vietnam Television (VTV), the launch ceremony of VTV6 will take place at 8:30 AM on June 8th and will be broadcast live on VTV1.
VTV6 first launched in 2007, initially positioned as a television channel for teenagers. From 2015 onwards, sports gradually became one of the channel's main content areas. Many major sporting events and matches of the Vietnamese men's national football team were broadcast live on the channel. After 15 years of operation, VTV6 officially ceased broadcasting in 2022 as part of VTV's television channel restructuring plan.
