These days, the price of rubber latex is soaring, so many households with rubber plantations in Nam Thanh commune are very excited. Not long ago, durian prices reached 30,000-40,000 VND/kg, bringing profits to farmers. The commune has 2,300 hectares of durian plantations, providing income for many residents. Furthermore, rice is currently priced at 8,000 VND/kg, and Nam Thanh is a rice granary with 3,000 hectares of cultivated land, including 500 hectares of high-quality rice. In addition, people in Nam Thanh also grow corn, beans, cashew nuts, coffee, and even have models of crop rotation between lotus and rice, and lotus farming for fish… And recently, an investor approached them about leasing 5% of the commune's land to grow mulberry trees for silkworm farming. Initial calculations suggest this model will yield high economic returns.
Looking at Nam Thanh's "collection" of crops, one can see that it is a fertile, diverse land suitable for many types of plants. The people are also experienced farmers, so whatever crop they plant thrives and yields high returns. Therefore, the people have diverse sources of income from various crops, leading people from other areas to exclaim: Nam Thanh is a land that pleases its people.
Furthermore, according to the leaders of Nam Thanh Commune People's Committee, approximately 1,000 people from the commune work in industrial clusters in Tra Tan Commune. In addition, residents also participate in garment manufacturing, cashew and lotus seed shelling at home or in garment factories located within residential areas. Besides that, there is also income from remittances sent by children working in other provinces and cities… All of this has brought the average per capita income of the commune to 64.13 million VND in 2024, estimated to reach 68 million VND by the end of 2025. Recently, the commune has had two more investment projects approved with a total capital of nearly 60 billion VND, in the fields of high-tech organic agricultural processing and petroleum business. This marks the beginning of large-scale investment projects in the commune.
According to the political report presented at the First Congress of the Nam Thanh Commune Party Committee, in the coming period, the commune will increase the proportion of industry and services, and reduce the proportion of agriculture to a reasonable level, thus setting a target of over 110 million VND per capita income by 2030. This is a very high increase.
